JANE CAMPION'S 'THE POWER OF THE DOG' NAMED BEST PICTURE AND PAOLO SORRENTINO WINS AS BEST DIRECTOR FOR 'THE HAND OF GOD' AT CAPRI, HOLLYWOOD 2021

 

'Cyrano' Garners Three Awards; 'Belfast' and 'West Side Story' Win Two Each

 

Jane Campion's "The Power of the Dog" was named Best Film and Paolo Sorrentino received the Best Director award for "The Hand of God" at the 26th edition of Capri, Hollywood - The International Film Festival, the annual event founded by Pascal Vicedomini and produced by the Capri in the World Institute. The awards were presented on the festival's closing night, January 3, at the prestigious San Carlo Theatre in Naples during a gala sponsored by Intesa Sanpaolo and Pegaso Telematic University 'Honoring Cinema Masters.'

Winners were selected by the Board of the Capri in the World Institute, which includes its Honorary President Tony Renis along with prominent international personages as Oscar®- winners Bille August, Dante Ferretti, Paul Haggis, Francesca Lo Schiavo, Gianni Quaranta; Rumenian actress Madalina Ghenea and the world-renowned Israeli musician, Noa.

Prizes for the best performances of the year were given to Peter Dinklage ("Cyrano") and Lady Gaga ("House of Gucci") – who has also been selected as Best Italian American Actress of the Year.

Apart from the best helmer of the year award, "The Hand of God" also earned a nod for Paolo Sorrentino as the Best International Picture.

Three awards were garnered by Joe Wright's "Cyrano," including Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Alessandro Bertolazzi, Sian Miller, Laura Solari) and Best Costume Design (Massimo Cantini Parrini).

Campion's "The Power of the Dog" also earned a Best Cinematography award for Ari Werner.

"Belfast" won two awards – Best Supporting Actor for Jamie Dornan and Best Original Screenplay for Kenneth Branagh; Disney's "West Side Story" also received two awards – Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Debose, and Best Ensemble Cast.

"The Lost Daughter" earned a Best Non-Original Screenplay Award for Maggie Gyllenhaal. Best Animated Movie is Pixar's "Luca" and Giuseppe Tornatore's "Ennio" (dedicated to the legendary composer Ennio Morricone) won the award for Best Documentary.

Regarding technical prizes, "Spiderman" earned awards for sound, mixing and visual effects, "Dune" received two prizes, one for Best Film Editing (John Walker) and one for Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer). "The French Dispatch" won the Best Production Design award and "No Time To Die" theme song by Billie Eillish and Finneas was selected as Best Original Song.

The Capri Producers of The Year Award 2021 goes to the movie "Licorice Pizza" (Paul Thomas Anderson, Sara Murphy, Adam Somner) while the Capri King of Comedy Award 2021 goes to Andrew Garfield ("Tick, Tick ... Boom").

The Capri Master of Cinematic Art awards were presented to director Pupi Avati; to the production design duo and three-time Oscar winners Dante Ferretti & Francesca Lo Schiavo; and to actor Toni Servillo. European Actors of the Year are Ed Westwick and Sadie Frost, while Kirsty Bell was honored as the European Breakout Director of the Year.

Capri, Hollywood, the 'bridge' festival connecting the Italian and US movie industries is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, Intesa Sanpaolo and Pegaso Telematic University, under the patronage of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly and with the participation of Terna, Givova, Fenix Entertainment, RS Productions, Frecciarossa and Isaia.
