NEW JAMES BOND FILM, CASINO ROYALE, TO RECEIVE ITS ITALIAN PREMIERE AT CAPRI, HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL DECEMBER 28

Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s film debut in the role of James Bond, will be introduced to Italy on December 28 at the Capri, Hollywood Film Fest. Giancarlo Giannini, a co-star in the film and chairman of the 11th annual international festival, was in Bond’s home base of London to announce the Italian premiere.

"Capri is the ideal beautiful place to introduce this beautiful film,” said Giannini. “It combines the personal glamour and romance of James Bond with passionate intrigue.”

Giannini said festival organizers are wildly enthusiastic about news of the Italian preview, made at the time when the group was in London to promote the annual end-of-year event. Film artists confirmed for Capri include Terry Gilliam. Michael Radford, John Irvin and Sandy Powell, along with Franco Nero, Dante Ferretti and Dario Marianelli, plus Marco di Lello, Campania Region council member for tourism.

"Capri, Hollywood 2006, is the great film festival for the Campania Region and all of Southern Italy,” said Tony Petruzzi, president of the event organizer, Capri in the World Institute. “Many international artists already have guaranteed they will attend and will meet with young people as Marco di Lello achieves broad involvement from the citizens of the Region.”

Among the show business personalities who have committed to attend are Raoul Bova (accompanying the worldwide preview of his new film Io, l'altro), Marleen Gorris, Amos Gitai, Gina Gershon, Ben Gazzara, Matthew Modine (receiving a Kimbo Coffee Friend of Capri Award in recognition being the first Hollywood star to attend the initial Capri, Hollywood Festival in 1995), Massimo Boldi (receiving the Fiuggi Capri Acting Award), Enrico Ruggeri (receiving the Casino of Venice Capri People’s Music Award), Claudia Gerini, Donatella Finocchiaro, Federico Zampaglione, Serena Autieri (godmother of the event) and many other international artists.

Sponsored by the European Union and with the support of the Ministry of the Cultural Assets’ Director General's Office for Cinema, Capri, Hollywood 2006 will showcase the Italian or international previews of 70 films and review the leading Italian films of the year, including Nuovomondo by Emanuele Crialese, officially selected to represent Italy in the race for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
The program also includes award presentations to leading actors and directors, and the Fiuggi Symposium on the topic of new ideas for the cinema. The symposium will discuss modern and classic literature, reality and fantasy, and global and local scope as sources for films. The symposium is promoted with Cinecittà Holding and the Film Commission of the Campania Region, and coordinated by Professor Gianni Celata of the Università La Sapienza of Rome.

Among the special awards to be presented are the Peppino Griffi Prize to the artist who best brings the emotion of the theatre to the big screen; Umberto Tirelli International Prize for the best costume artist of the year; and the Carmelo Rocca Prize to the Italian producer of the year. Also to be given are the Capri People Award by Fiuggi, the Capri Kimbo Music Award and Capri Acting Awards by Casino of Venice.
