The Asylum is a Madhouse of Ideas, From Creatures to Christmas

For a company known for its monsters and fantastical natural disasters, The Asylum has more to offer than at first meets the eye. With an in-house staff of 33 crew members, The Aslyum has become famous for the “Sharknado” movies and the SyFy series “Nation Z”. But with the success of “Sharknado”, its siblings, and “Nation Z”, what could The Asylum be looking for in Cannes?

“Sharknado” was a major calling card for The Asylum. The film brought the company onto the mainstage and gave it an international spotlight. Now, in Cannes, representatives of The Asylum are meeting with their relationship buyers in order to get new film ideas or titles for the upcoming year. Interested in gaining another television series or a World War Two film, The Asylum is branching out from its creature-covered past and looking towards other story-telling avenues. Hallmark has already reached out to them for a new romantic film, which is currently in production. In the future, an ideal opportunity for the in-house team would be to create an animated “Sharknado” television series for children, following along the same lines as the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series that have been created over the past decade.

With their name out in the open and “Sharknado” coming to the end in the next year, The Asylum looks to be heading towards an insane future. Filled with momentum from their past successes and promising future plans, it will be exciting to see what else the company has to bring to the television screen.
