![]() The appeal of the Head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Maryna Kuderchuk, to Pierre Lescure
Despite Ukraine's call to the world film communities to boycott Russian cinema, the main competition program of the Cannes Film Festival includes the work of Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov "Tchaikovsky's Wife". At the same time, Ukrainian directors and other filmmakers are forced to either fight against the Russian attack, hide in bomb shelters, or volunteer behind the front lines. Although they would also choose the opportunity to make films like Serebrennikov, Russia deprived them of such a luxury. Ukrainian State Film Agency again appeals to the Cannes Film Festival not to allow Russian-made films to participate in the festival. "Now, during active hostilities on our territory, the simultaneous representation of the aggressor country and Ukraine on the same platform is unacceptable and will shift the focus of the horrors of war and the struggle of Ukrainians for their identity to drawing attention to Russian propaganda regarding reconciliation through culture", - Maryna Kuderchuk, the Head Ukrainian State Film Agency. The full-scale war in Ukraine continues, and today it is unacceptable to allow representatives of the aggressor country to attend the international cultural arena.
