Successful 5th edition of the Better World Fund took place in Cannes on Monday July 12th. Dr. Okyere Darko-Mensah This endowment fund created for women's rights, education, children and the preservation of the oceans takes advantage of major international festivals to ensure that cinematographic art is used in the service of great social and humanitarian causes.
A mastermind on the theme of Ethical Gold was held in the morning in the auditorium of the Eden Hotel, with Ghana as the country of honor, in the presence of Minister Dr. Okyere Darko-Mensah. This mastermind benefited from the institutional support of the United Nations, the OECD, Cerem de Monaco and the Green Cross.
In the evening, a Gala dinner took place on the 3.14 Beach. The benefits will be donated to the Lebanese René Moawad Foundation, which was represented by Michel Moawad. This Foundation supports the children of Lebanon by offering them education, school materials, meals and medical follow-up.
The ceremony hosted by Manuel Collas de La Roche, president and founder of the Better World Fund, with actress and activist Kiera Chaplin, opened with a special guest, Marcelo Viera, new Real Madrid captain, who offered a signed ball as well as a shirt and shoes which will be auctioned for the René Moawad Foundation.
An ethical fashion show by Eileen Akbaraly, founder of the eco-responsible brand Made for a woman, and Pietro Paradiso was then presented. This Madagascan brand proposes pieces created by women for women, with the main objective of improving their lives and allowing them to flourish.
During the dinner, seven “Union-Life International awards” were offer to personalities whose works or actions had a social impact and a solidarity impact in 2020: Eileen Akbaraly, fashion designer ‘Made for a woman’: Best commitment Dr Sohan Roy, Aries Group (India) : Best commitment Dr Aziz Mustapha, represented by Joelle Aziz et Lamia Lamou (Morroco): Best commitment « The Sound of Us », documentary by Chris Gero, Filmfestivals.com “Movie that Matters”Award « ENOUGH ! Lebanon’s darkest hour », documentary by Daizy Gedeon, Filmfestivals.com “Movie that Matters” Award Barry Alexander Brown, director, editor (USA), “Lifetime Achievement Award” Nabil Ayouch, réalisateur (Maroc), Best Achievement in Cinematography -> director The Movie That Matters Awards are created by local french artist PAB with interpretation of the film posters. The Unity trophies were created by Wilfried Grenier and Karine Elkobbi they symbolize the benevolent union of two human beings without discrimination of origin, sex, religion with in the center the light symbolizing the awakening of consciousness, knowledge and wisdom, and on the sides the imprint of two hearts which transmit a message of unconditional love.
