Films selected for the Festival de Cannes 2020 label

The Institut français would like to congratulate all films selected by the Festival de Cannes and ACID, and which were previously supported by La Fabrique Cinéma by the Institut français and the Aide aux Cinémas du Monde fund:

SHOULD THE WIND DROP by Nora Martirosyan (Armenia), a participant in La Fabrique Cinéma 2013, a Sister Productions (France), Kwassa Films (Belgium) and Aneva Production (Armenia) coproduction

EN ROUTE POUR LE MILLIARD by Dieudo Hamadi (Democratic Republic of Congo), Kiripifilms (Congo) & Les Films de l’oeil sauvage (France), a Neon Rouge (Belgium) and Al Jazeera Documentary Channel (Qatar) coproduction

MEMORY HOUSE / CASA DE ANTIGUIDADES by João Paulo Miranda Maria (Brazil), BossanovaFilms (Brazil) and ManekiFilms (France) coproduction

IN THE DUSK by Sharunas Bartas (Lithuania),

Studija Kinema (Lithuania), KinoElektron (France), coproduction with Sirena Films (Czech Republic), Biberche Productions (Serbia), Mistrus Media (Latvia) and Terratreme filmes (Portugal)

The Aide aux Cinémas du Monde fund provides grants to production companies based in France, when they take part in a coproduction with a production company based abroad. It supports feature films exclusively (fiction, animation, creative documentaries) that are intended for cinema release. It is allocated by the CNC and the Institut français.

In addition to Cannes, the Institut français partners with several residencies and initiatives that support the development of projects such as the Ouaga Film Lab and Realness.

This year, a new partner, SØRFOND - The Norwegian South Film Fund has joined us. Thanks to this new collaboration to support the talents coming from Southern and emerging countries, one of the projects of La Fabrique Cinéma will be selected each year to participate in the SØRFOND Pitching Forum.

SHOOT THE BOOK

Initiated by publisher members of the Société des Éditeurs de Langue Française (SCELF) and the International Bureau for French Publishing (BIEF), in partnership with the Institut français, the Frankfurter Buchmesse, Film Paris Région and with the support of the National Book Centre (CNL) and the Centre Français de la Copie (CFC), the aim of this operation is to promote film adaptations of French and international fictional works among international producers. Ten books have been selected by an expert panel and will be pitched by their publishers.

CANNES XR VIRTUAL

As part of Cannes XR Virtual, a three-day online event entirely dedicated to immersive creations and technologies, the Institut français will take part in a conference on Wednesday 24 June at 8 p.m., entitled “FR//XR: LBE in the post-COVID world”, and which will focus on the distribution of virtual reality creations for location-based entertainment in the post-Covid world.

The conference will provide the Institut français with the opportunity to highlight its work supporting XR stakeholders and present its new VR Immersive Experiences catalogue, which brings together a selection of original works that combine virtual reality, live entertainment and visual arts. The aim of the catalogue is to present these new types of shows and exhibitions, and facilitate their organisation in cultural spaces and leisure centres, thereby helping develop the market in this emerging industry.

The Institut français

The Institut Français is a public institution which promotes French culture abroad. Under the supervision of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry for Culture, the Institut français actively contributes to France’s “diplomacy of influence”. Its projects and programmes are implemented through France’s cultural network abroad, which includes the Instituts français, Alliances françaises and cultural services in embassies around the world.
