German Films at 72nd Festival de Cannes (14 – 25 May 2019)

German Films

The Cannes International Film Festival has announced a majority of its 2019 festival program in a press conference today. Further films as well as the jury of the Cannes competition section will be announced by the end of next week.

The German co-productions THE TRAITOR by Marco Bellocchio (IT/FR/BR/DE, Match Factory Productions), IT MUST BE HEAVEN by Elia Suleiman (FR/DE/CA/TK, Pallas Film), A HIDDEN LIFE by Terrence Malick (US/DE, Studio Babelsberg), LITTLE JOE by Jessica Hausner (AT/GB/DE, Essential Filmproduktion) and THE WHISTLERS by Corneliu Porumboiu (RU/FR/DE, Komplizen Film) will be screened in competition.

FAMILY ROMANCE LLC by Werner Herzog will be shown in the Special Screenings section.

INVISIBLE LIFE (BR/DE, Pola Pandora) by Karim Aïnouz and LIBERTÉ by Albert Serra (FR/DE, Lupa Film) will be screened in the section Un Certain Regard.

The films being screened in the Cinéfondation had already been announced earlier: FAVORITEN, a German-Austrian co-production by Martin Monk will have its world premiere there.

Further films in the main festival program will be announced over the coming weeks. The films of the festival sections Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Réalisateurs will be announced 19 and 23 April 2019.
