Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe star in Walter Hill's DEAD FOR A DOLLAR

Myriad Pictures is pleased to announce the acquisition of the international rights to the western thriller DEAD FOR A DOLLAR, which is set to star Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Spectre, No Time to Die) and Academy Award Nominee Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate, The Florida Project, Spider-Man).
Walter Hill (The Driver, 48 hrs, Last Man Standing, The Warriors, Broken Trail, Deadwood, The Long Riders) will write and direct.
STORY: New Mexico Territory, Chihuahua, Mexico, 1897. Max Borlund (Christoph Waltz), a famed bounty hunter, is hired to find and return Rachel Price, the politically progressive wife of Nathan Price, a successful Santa Fe businessman. Max is told she has been kidnapped by an African American army deserter, Elijah Jones, and is being held for ransom in Mexico. When Max goes south of the border he soon runs across his sworn enemy, expatriate American Joe Cribbens (Willem Dafoe), a professional gambler, sometime outlaw, who Max had tracked down and sent to prison years before. When Max finds Rachel Price and Elijah hiding deep in the wilds of the Mexican desert, he discovers that Rachel has willingly fled from an abusive husband, and the runaway soldier is, in fact, her romantic partner.  Max is now faced with a dilemma: does he return the wife back across the border to the man who hired him, or does he aid Rachel’s bid for freedom and fight off ruthless hired guns and his long-time criminal rival, Joe Cribbens?
DEAD FOR A DOLLAR is an adventure story set in the Wild West that resonates with present-day issues.
DEAD FOR A DOLLAR is being produced by Jeremy Wall (Gun-Shy, American Dream),  Kirk D’Amico (The Last Word) and Caroyn Mc Masters.
Myriad Pictures President and CEO Kirk D'Amico said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with the legendary Walter Hill who has created a Western with contemporary themes and modern feeling characters. Award-winning actors Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe will embody the extraordinary leading roles which are destined for cinematic history.”
Myriad Pictures will debute the international sales at the 2021 Cannes market this week.
Christoph Waltz is represented by IMC partners and Players Agentur.
Willem Dafoe is represented by CAA and Circle of Confusion.
Waltz is set to be seen in the new James Bond No Time to Die, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, and Jeffrey Walker’s The Portable Door.
Dafoe is also set to be seen in several high-profile features including Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Paul Schrader The Card Counter, Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, Robert Eggers’ The Northman and Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming adaptation of Poor Things.
