Celebrating the return of the Festival de Cannes - Marché du Film with health precautions

While France is slowly but surely coming back to life with cinemas, restaurants, shops opening and the curfew lifted, we may hope to witness a beautiful homecoming in Cannes, even more knowing that the Alpes-Maritimes district has now the lowest COVID-19 infection rate in France !

Here is our guide to all measures in France, locally in Cannes, and more specifically at the festival. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

First stop… France !
As of June 9, travel between France and foreign countries is officially allowed, depending on the sanitary situation in these countries and each traveler's vaccination status.
The French government has created a classification of countries on the basis of the health status of each region with Green countries (the EU region and select areas where the COVID risk is minimal including Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, USA), Red countries with a high risk of COVID-19 variants (India, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Colombia and more…), and Orange countries (UK and others).
Please check THIS LIST to find the status of your home country.

At the Festival :
Rules for accessing the Palais des Festivals :
You may enter the Palais ONLY if you can provide a vaccination confirmation (if you come from the EU) OR a proof of positive antibodies (between 15 days and 6 months) OR a negative PCR test within the past 48 hours.

Each of these documents must be presented in the form of a QR code that can be downloaded in the governmental application TousAntiCovid (available in English on App Store and Google Play).

This rule does not apply to the screening rooms (Lumière, Debussy).

On site COVID testing :
The Festival de Cannes & Marché du Film will have a dedicated onsite lab, located on the Pantiero espanade within strikin distance from the Palais. The lab will be open daily (8am - 9pm) from Monday, 5 July until Saturday, 17 July, with FREE tests provided to both French and international participants.
Prior to any test, it is recommended to pre-register and make an appointment via (open from Monday, 28 June).

Test results will be sent to each patient by email within 6 hours.

Nasopharyngical Rapid PCR tests (results in 30 minutes) are also available in the laboratory. They will be invoiced to each patient at a cost of 50€.
Nasopharyngical antigenic tests can also be performed at local partner pharmacies.

Once in the Palais
We want you to feel safe in your surroundings so rest assured, we have deployed all necessary sanitary measures in compliance with local authorities in the Festival and Market space. These include :

  • Air-conditioning installations of the Palais des Festivals that have been analyzed and are in line with the requirements recommended by national health authorities. The air-conditioning installations will be running 24 hours a day during the event to allow for continuous renewal of the air.
  • Reinforced cleaning procedures, with regular disinfection of contact points by spraying with antiviral cleanser.
  • Digitalization when possible. Close contact and the handling of objects are limited thanks to pre-reservations for ticketing and transfert of the majority of media publications to digital media.
  • Social distancing will be required and enforced at all times within event venues.

To mask, or not to mask?
While the rules may vary according to your country of origin, in France, it is obligatory to wear a mask inside shops or when entering and leaving restaurants. Masks will be mandatory in the entire Festival area including inside the Palais, inside theaters and indoors at hotels or other meeting spots. Masks must be either surgical, FFP2 or standard-issued fabric masks manufactured with a filtration rate of over 90%, according to ANFOR Category 1 standards.
Note : You may be asked to remove your mask briefly at the entrance to the Festival area for identify verification purposes.

Hygiene first !
In addition to your mask, we ask that you please respect other barrier gestures to ensure the well-being of everyone.
Wash your hands regularly : sanitizing sprays or gel will be available throughout the Festival area.
Cough or sneeze into your elbow or into a tissue.
Use single-use tissues and throw them away.
Greet each other without physical contact (yes, this means no handshakes and hugs. Get creative !)
Respect the one-meter distance when queuing up for the Palais or screenings, which will be indicated by stickers on the ground.

On-site medical care
A medical unit is permanently present in the festival zone to assist people who may need it (Covid symptoms or other urgent health matters).
The medical unit will include an isolation room dedicated to people with symptoms, and a team authorized to perform Covid diagnoses.

Medical care in Cannes
An online medical concierge service is available 24/7 for all festival goers.
Specifically, in the event of Covid-19 symptoms, Concilio Medical Concierge will provide access to:

  • a medical teleconsultation in less than an hour with a general practitioner, in less than 48 hours with a specialist ;
  • a recommendation of doctors and medical centers in the Cannes area ;
  • a quick medical appointment with a doctor in Cannes.

Out and about in Cannes
As of 9 June, all restaurants, cinemas, hotels, boutiques and other facilities in France are open for business - almost ! - as usual. This means that you will be able to find everything you need at local pharmacies and shops and plan meals for business or pleasure at restaurants and cafes all over town.

Transports : Travel with confidence
Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is fighting the spread of the virus and has just obtained ACI Health Accreditation.
The SNCF has stepped us its health and safety measures to keep you safe in train stations and abord their trains.
Taxis are regularly ventilated and disinfected.
Buses have put in place protective measures to better protect its passengers and drivers.

Each hotel in Cannes is committed to applying a strict sanitary protocol established by the UMIH (Union des métiers et des industries de l'hôtellerie) : disinfected rooms, specially-trained staff, social distancing measures, etc.

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes : an international reference for health and safety
First convention center in France to obtain the "GBAC STARTM Facility" label, the best North American certification awarded by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council. This accreditation is awarded to facilities who have implemented the strictest protocols for cleaning, disinfection and prevention of infectious diseases within its establishment.
Considered "COVID-19 Business Ready" by the SOCOTEC group and awarded the "Health Security Label" and the "Ecovid Label".

Remember, the health and safety of everyone at the Festival and Market dépends not only on our scrupulous measures, but also on YOU.

The effectiveness of this system is a question of collective responsability. On the one hand, it requires that everyone scrupulously respects the sanitary protocol, and on the other hand, that any person presenting symptoms - fever, dry cough, respiratory difficulties, muscular pains, severe fatigue, loss of taste and/or smell - abstain from entering the Festival grounds and seek immediate medical care.
Rest assured, the safety of everyone onsite is our top priority, and we are implementing all necessary sanitary measures and safety protocols. We continue to adapt to the changing circumstances and our Marché protocols are compliant with local and national guidelines.

We look forward to welcoming you to Cannes for a safe, healthy and festive event !
