Beware before you book your accomodation for CannesBEWARE ANYONE THINKING OF USING AIRBNB TO BOOK CANNES ACCOMMODATION
Rising Damp. Black Mold. Insect Infestation. No Electricity for 3 days & nights (no hot water, no lights, no heating, unable to charge phones or laptops) while owner didn't reply to desperate texts & voicemails. Electric sockets hanging off the walls & live wires sticking out of holes in the wall. Ladder to mezzanine/ 2nd bed falling to pieces. $300 a night!

My colleague and I booked accommodation late for Cannes 2013 via a new online Accomodation Booking 'Community' for people to rent out their own properties for brief periods of time, supposedly based on 'TRUST' & 'TRANSPARENCY' & sworn by its creator Brian Chesky to be 'Safe' & 'Legal'. What a joke! Airbnb doesn't even have Public Liability Insurance for visitors so if you die of a lung infection from black mold, fall off the broken ladder as you climb up to go to bed or get electrocuted by the live wires, tough luck!
The 'owner' of the central Cannes studio we stayed in, who is actually an Agent for 5 properties in Cannes which she says the owner refuses to repair because they're going to be sold, excused all this as an example of the fact that Cannes is 'RUSTIC'. And Airbnb Customer Service said they'd remove this property from the site but its still there, as is the Agent that manages it, but now under another name.
There may be some good properties available on Airbnb but the series of disasters that happened to us took up our entire Festival to cope with & sort out, during which time we both got chest infections from the mold, which I'm only just recovering from a month later.
As a movie Director I never intended to make a horror movie but a friend who watched the clip above said it was very Blairwitch & loved it, especially the bit when you see the insects start running around at 1min 30sec.

Horror....
Hi,
I just found your blog post and watched your film and it looks like a real nightmare. And 300 Euro per night for that apartment, absolutly crazy.
This is exactly the reason why we have not used Airbnb for our own apartment in Cannes. (We have one of our aparments on Airbnb, just as a test.) We do want to me mixed up with all possible scammers and prople trying to rent out apartments like the one you rented.
I try to keep me informed about what other accommodation is available in Cannes and when I watched your film I recognized the apartmnet! As you write, it's a perfect location, and from the pictures in the on-line ad it looks quite ok.
So how to avoid this for the future? Well, the problem with Airbnb is that it's not possible to get in direct contact with the apartment owner before you have paid the rent, so not easy to do a background check.
However, I would reccommend the questions in this post on Cannesguide.com Not because that we are mentiond in it as a trusted agent, but because I hate when people end up in situations like you describe.
Kind Regsards & Good luck for next Festival!
