Starting at 11:00 AM, discover the magical way music is included in films with our The Music of Cannes Film Festival panel. Featuring composers from some of Cannes most prolific films, including Nainita Desai (For Sama), Kristian Eidnes Anderson (Vivarium), Walter Mair (HBO’s The Hunt for Jihadi Jon, Balance not Symmetry), and Allyson Newman (Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound) and will be moderated by Thomas Mikusz from White Bear PR. The panel will explore how integral music is in films, and how working with directors adds to the creative process of making films. Come find out about the cooperation and potential friction between the two!

The American Pavilion is extremely excited to welcome the phenomenal director of some of the most popular films in recent years, Luca Guadagnino! At 12:15 PM, the acclaimed director of Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, and A Bigger Splash sits down with Scott Foundas from Amazon Studios to discuss his latest feature, the short film The Staggering Girl, which screened at Director’s Fortnight on Friday.

Following Luca Guadagnino, The American Pavilion is hosting State of Play - Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and the Film Industry, a panel at 2:00 PM to discuss how technology and machines make creating, discovering, and releasing films simpler. Join Mark Bessen, the CTO at Storyfit, Juha Koski, the co-founder and CEO of Itcher, Angel Montesdeoca, the Lead Project Manager at IMB Watson Al, Dev Sen, co-founder at CTO at Cinelytic, and Adrian Zapata Fory, the Project Manager at IMB Watson Al to explore how machine learning and algorithms are involved in the alchemy of film at this panel, moderated by Zachary Soreff, The President of Sawyer Studios.

From 4:30-6:30 PM, we are debuting our Emerging Filmmaker LGBTQ Showcase, short films from dynamic LGBTQ filmmakers. Showcasing our incredibly diverse themes of our showcase, we’re thrilled to have 11 films being shown. Experience films like Queen For A Day, a comedy about marriage and drag queens, and Head’s Up, written and directed by The American Pavilion’s own Colin Higgins Ambassador Scholarship recipient, Alex McFry. Our showcase also includes themes involving gender transitioning, family dynamics, and coming out. The American Pavilion is very proud to show these films and offer a voice to these filmmakers from around the globe.

East meets West at The American Pavilion, as we have glamorous free chair or table massages! Experience the comfort and relaxation of a massage featuring CS60, a healing method originating in Japan that helps revive the 60 trillion cells in our body. Stop by to see the founder of CS60, Mitsuhisa Nishimura who developed the treatment to help cure bodily glitches that Western medicine typically has out of reach. Enjoy the bliss of the massage anytime, from now until Tuesday.

Although we’re always happy at The American Pavilion, our official Happy Hour is every evening from 5:00-7:00 PM with 3€ beers. We welcome both Pavilion members and non-members, starting at 6:00 PM, to enjoy our beautiful view of the setting sun along the Bay of Cannes for a toast to film. As a reminder, on Monday, May 20, The American Pavilion will be closing early.

We don’t want you to miss any of the incredible events and opportunities that The American Pavilion is hosting throughout the Cannes Film Festival! Please keep an eye out for updates on our programming by visiting our website, AmPav.com, where the schedule is always up-to-date with any changes.
