THE DIVERSITY IN CANNES SHORT FILM & WEBSERIES SHOWCASE     is an independent event produced as a component of DIVERSITY DAY at the Cannes Film Festival  (May 20, 2019).

Nestled in the heart of the beau chaos that is Cannes, the showcase celebrates the work and recognizes the achievements of globally diverse filmmakers and other marginalized groups at the world's most prestigious festival. It provides an intimate platform for participating filmmakers to expand their international network and to strategize to finance, produce and distribute their films. Since not all films are selected for the official Cannes Film Festival, think of Diversity in Cannes as an independent helpmate to the larger festival providing programming for a portion of the underserved population. Similar to Slamdance at Sundance!

NETWORKING - Diversity in Cannes attracts a diverse group of professionals. From Africa to Asia and points in between, we assemble an eclectic mix of students, emerging and established filmmakers, eager to network and to exchange information. Many of our filmmakers have received prestigious global filmmaking grants, been official selections of the Clermont-Ferrand, Berlin, Toronto International and other Oscar qualifying film festivals.

ACCESSIBILITY - In addition to the unique mix of filmmakers, Diversity in Cannes plays host to some of the industry's top professionals including Lisa Cortes, executive producer of Precious, Michael Rowe, 2010 Golden Camera Award Winner, South African director Mr. B, British Actress Lucy Russell, US Actor Comedian John "Pops" Witherspoon, International Artists Synthia SAINT JAMES and Manou Marzban, US Actor Jay Ellis of HBO's Insecure, The Academy's Bettina Fisher  and Annemarie Jacir, Palestine's first female feature filmmaker and two time Cannes Film Festival alum. All of whom have supported Diversity in Cannes.

EXPOSURE - Winners have the opportunity to meet with industry experts for mentorship or expert consultation as well as set visits. CBS Entertainment Diversity has been a prize sponsor for the past three years. Event and prize sponsors for 2018 include Viola Davis' Juvee Productions Janine Sherman BarroisFelicia D. HendersonAngi Bones , Agents Tracy Christian and Claire Best  as well as 2015 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase Winner Pete Chatmon.

Moreover, all submissions are considered for additional screening and distribution opportunities as Diversity in Cannes event producers also program the shorts programs and have relationships with other festivals and venues. Films submitted for consideration to Diversity in Cannes have also been screened at The Writers Guild America West, The California African American Museum, African American Women in Cinema, Bishop TD Jakes International Faith and Family Film FestivalWomen and Minorities in Media Fest and have been considered for distribution on Issa Rae's YouTube ChannelSeed & SparkCassius Life and Urban Movie Channel.

STAND FOR SOMETHING - The Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, as a component of the bigger DIVERSITY DAY, affords globally diverse filmmakers the opportunity to participate in an international movement promoting diversity and inclusion at the Cannes Festival. As a supporter of Diversity in Cannes, you join the ranks of other filmmakers with the audacity to take their place at the proverbial table to ensure their voices are heard #diversityincannes #cannesyouseeus #cannesyouhearus.

TESTIMONIALS - Don't just take our word for it. Read what others are saying about the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase.

Awesome experience attending Diversity in Cannes. Warm and friendly organizational staff. Yolonda and her programmers, true to their word, selected a diverse and powerful slate of films. It was an honour that my film was among those selected. Noel Scott, Filmmaker, Canada

"This is a Wonderful Festival. Yolonda and her staff are warm, inviting and open. The Radisson Blu Venue is a beautiful reprieve from the Hustle and Bustle. Thank you for having us and I hope to come again. Grace & Peace". Tracy Twinkie Byrd, Casting Director & Filmmaker, USA

"My name is Gianni del Corral, I won the "Director's Choice Awards" in the 2018 edition. I found high quality movies. The organization was perfect! I met wonderful people. I love this Festival." Gianni del Corral, Filmmaker Italy

“Diversity in Cannes is an incredible experience for filmmakers around the world to gather in an intimate environment and share their films, which explore difference and commonality.”  Lisa Cortes, executive producer Precious, USA

"This was a unique and incredible festival that connected filmmakers from around the world that were on a similar mission: telling high quality stories and increasing the representation of diversity in the process. I'm thankful for all the global artists I met and excited to collaborate with my fellow filmmakers. Alex (director) and I were honored to be chosen for this showcase and I highly recommend attending for anyone who can make the experience. Yolonda the creator of the festival is an inspiration woman and I have no doubt her movement will continue to grow in Cannes in future year."  Siena Oberman, producer- University of Southern California School of Cinematic Studies

"This is a wonderful festival. I saw some great films from all over the world. My film was adjudged the winner of 2017 but then I feel all films that participated were winners. Yolonda is a lovely person ready to help with any information when needed. I recommend this festival for all upcoming filmmakers to show their work. Highly recommend it." Venika Mitra, director - India

"I had a wonderful time. The quality of the films was very high and the spirit of the day was magical. I met wonderful people who I have remained in contact with. Yolonda and her staff were fantastic. Their programmers watch each submission five times. Few festivals can say that. I will return to Cannes again and would be honored to be in Diversity in Cannes once again."  Mary-Lyn Chambers, director USA

"This festival is so under-rated. It's a special platform in the midst of Cannes for independent films with diverse edge. The festival organisers are well organised and friendly. The films were of high calibre and some of the best short films I've seen in a long time. It's a shame that the festival isn't more visited. People are missing out on real talent! There needs to be more buzz around this festival. (And maybe a better logo!?)" Mala Ghedia, Actress/Producer Germany
