Hungary: Pavillion of the Day

Those involved in the Hungarian Film Industry are proud to have such a large selection of films screening at the Festival this year.  They include the competition piece "Tender Son" by Kornel Mundruczo; the short film "Here I Am" by Balint Szimler; a piece for the Director's Fortnight "Adrinn Pal" by Agnes Kocsis; and Cannes Classics from 1939 "Two Girls on the Street" by Andre de Toth.  The Pavilion has received many congratulatory remarks over their selections and appears to be on path for having a good year.  They are especially proud of their piece selected for the Director's Fortnight, as it is the sole piece in the selection with a female director this year.

According to the "Cannes Market News," Hungary was the first Central Eastern European country to have a pavilion at the festival seven years ago in 2004, the same time that new film laws were passed in the country allowing tax redemptions for foreign productions in Hungary.  Their Pavilion is an important meeting point for festival operations, meetings with sales agents and providing contact points for the whole Hungarian film industry.  Producing between 20-28 movies a year, Hungary has a lot of talent emerging from it.  They host their own Hungarian National Film Week annually in February where new productions are screened and critiqued, and producers and distributers can meet.  With their great lineup, they are expecting even more great things from Cannes this festival.
