![]() EW WORLD DISTRIBUTION AND WINNOL TO CREATE DISTRIBUTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR VICTOR GINZBERG’S “GENERATION P”
Film to Open on 1500 Screens with Special Telecast Intro from Moscow-based Ginzberg
Cannes – Newly established US distributor, New World Distribution (NWD) and Los Angeles based Winnol will join forces to release Russian box-office hit and film festival favorite ‘Generation P’ on 1500 screens and then innovatively across all VOD/mobile platforms on September 12th. An independent US/Russian co-production, “Generation P” was directed by Victor Ginzburg and is based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed Russian writer Victor Pelevin.
NWD acquired the distribution rights to "Generation P" for the United States and India and will release the director’s cut for an unprecedented theatrical ‘event.’ The film will be introduced by Victor Ginzberg and his cast in “…a telecast toast from Moscow about the universal themes of gangsters, money and the digital politics that rule the world.” This will be repeated the following day, after which the film will roll into a more traditional limited release.
Winnol will be involved in sponsoring the US theatrical release and will continue their involvement through all US ancillary markets with an emphasis on VOD. The release of “Generation P” will utilize Winnol’s innovative digital advertising model designed to monetize online content for its owners.
“Generation P,” is a wild, cinematic ride about the rise of gangsterism and advertising in Russia. The film recently screened at Lincoln Center and MOMA in New York with other festival play in Toronto, Mumbai, Karlovy Vary and Palm Springs.
NWD partner and former Paramount Studios topper Frank Yablans, sees “Generation P” as one of those rare films that if marketed correctly “can become a film event for progressive audiences of all languages around the world.”
“Winnol has developed an innovative methodology/technology designed to engage “opt-in” viewers to watch targeted ads,” says Grant Kahn, Director of Content & Licensing for Winnol. “The technology allows viewers to make choices and watch selected ads alongside content. When they choose to watch advertisements, viewers receive Winnol Credits which can be redeemed for any products and services tied to all Winnol advertisers. Additionally, when consumers watch content and chose to watch ads while on the content page, the content owner receives revenue.”
Kahn says of Generation P, “their use of internationally known brands as part of the movie is genius. It is our goal to make the commercials shown in the movie part of a viral campaign that makes people embrace commercials as content. We love this film.”
NWD founder Cary Floyd says “We are excited to be working with Jim Steele and Victor Ginzburg. Too often foreign language films with established audiences just die on the vine. Says Jim Steele, “Cary Floyd and NWD’s strategy will allow us to find our fans wherever they are around the globe.”
Generation P. has been supported by the Russian Film Fund in their efforts to finish the film and deliver it to the international marketplace.
Elena Romanova, Head of International Co-Production for the Russian Film Fund, “We are happy to support “Generation P”” as it gets picked up and distributed outside of Russia. Our focus is to see powerful films that reflect - in some form or another - Russian culture, be embraced both inside and outside of Russia.”
