Camerado Update: Two Film Festivals we Produce in Asia & 'FREEDOM DEAL' Production and KICKSTARTERHello from Camerado SE Asia:
sponsorship for two film festivals we produce in the region, the CamboFest Cambodia Film Festival and the Bangkok IndieFest :
The CAMBOFEST, Cambodia Film Festival , Cambodia's first recurring international movie festival since the end of the Khmer Rouge regime, was established in 2007 and is gearing up for its 5th Edition. To date over 250 international filmmakers have screened their work at CamboFest, in one of the most pioneering film festival events in the world.
The BANGKOK INDIEFEST launched successfully in 2010 despite the destruction of two potential venues following the 'Red Shirt' protests of that year, with the support of EPSON projectors, Singha Beer, Apple iStudio, the US Embassy in Bangkok and other key sponsors.
Camerado gets a constant stream of emails from industry and interested filmmakers asking when the next events will take place...many DVDs are being sent even without a call for entries yet announced for the next editions.
While we have strong funding processes in the works for both festivals, and previous sponsors including Epson, Apple iStudio, and Singha Beer have expressed interest in being involved, we won't make any formal announcement regarding a launch date for either edition of until threshold operation funds are committed (...and until our current project queue is cleared - see below)
The best way to stay in touch regarding both festivals is to sign up on our email mailing lists for CAMBOFEST and BANGKOK INDIEFEST and you'll be the first to get the news! (even before our Twitter and Facebook blasts)

SPEAKING of Project Queues: As many of you may have gathered from previous outreach, we are producing our 3rd feature, 'Freedom Deal' in Cambodia, using a crowdfunded, staged approach to shoot in this very unique and pioneering production environment, pending co-production financing for the fully funded production. These standalone short movies, based on the completed WGA registered 'Freedom Deal' script, (and which may be linked together later to create a more comprehensive movie) will be exhibited at film festivals and other venues and platforms to leverage interest, support, and financing for the full scale feature production.
'FREEDOM DEAL', a movie about a young refugee named Samnang ('Lucky') during the expansion of the US-Vietnam conflict during Nixon's 1970 'Cambodian Incursion', is a social issue drama with great relevance today.
Conflicts still rage around the globe, from Syria to Africa, sending refugee non-combatants (like 'Lucky') streaming from their homes into devastating war zones.
Thanks to supporters of 'Freedom Deal' during our recent fundraising campaign on IndieGogo in May-June, for helping us generate enough funds for PRODUCTION Stage 1. See a list of funders and contributors HERE.
During that effort, we achieved PRODUCTION funding, allowing us to shoot our first section and 'get the movie in the can'. However: vitally needed POSTPRODUCTION funding required to edit, mix audio, license stock footage and music, deliver the movie, and pay application fees to numerous festivals is still not sufficient.
THIS POSTPRODUCTION CAMPAIGN INCLUDES: Editing, Archival Footage & Music Licensing Fees, Audio Mix, Color Correction, Festival Application Fees with Accompanying Materials and Postage & Shipping Costs.

Q: What happens if you don't reach your target on Kickstarter? Unlike Indiegogo, Kickstarter is "all or nothing" - you have to reach or exceed your funding target or you get ZILCH, ZERO and people who pledge money are not charged.
A: You are correct: Kickstarter requires that a funding goal is completely met, and if not, all pledges are returned to backers, they spend nothing.
In the event we don't raise our Postproduction & Distribution funding goal on Kickstarter we'll still have the material 'in the can' from our shoot, the absolutely most critical part of the production process.
But the ultimate completion and release of the movie will be delayed if there is no financing in place to Postproduce, Edit & Distribute. Producing a movie is tough out here in Cambodia - there are no grants, no incentives, no government financial support. Everything has to be fundraised, earned, or otherwise comes out of pocket.
So, if we don't meet our goal on Kickstarter for POSTPRODUCTION, time will pass as we raise, earn, and otherwise generate the completion funding.
And during that delay, however long it takes, this universal drama 'Freedom Deal', about refugees in a landmine-ridden conflict zone - with great relevance today, considering all the ongoing conflicts around the world, from Syria to Africa, will have to wait.
The completion will wait, while we look for the funds, or earn it, or sell off gear to meet that goal: whatever it takes.
But that would be too bad, because the 'Freedom Deal' story could otherwise already be on screen, raising awareness about hugely important global issues including the plight of refugees worldwide and the horrors of landmine dangers, while doing so in an entertaining and compelling way and changing lives for the better in the process.
SO - YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

If you'd like to join in our effort but can't spare any cash - why not share our Twitters, or print out and hang our A4 miniposter about the 'Freedom Deal' project to help spread the word in a hardcopy format around the globe, in places we can't reach while we're in Cambodia.
Suggested places to hang the 'Freedom Deal' miniposter: at your local film society, community bulletin board, radio or TV station hallway, film school lobby, 'arty cafe', cultural center...basically anywhere film and art supporters and social issue philanthropists may pass by and take notice of our unique and important social issue drama, 'Freedom Deal'.
