BrunoA few good news from the festival circuit I Bienvenue sur le blog de Bruno avec quelques news en français du circuit des festivals francophones. Laissez moi un commentaire quand vous le pouvez. Universal and DreamWorks Set to Unveil Two New Animated Movies in 2021
Dreamworks and Universal Animation announced the release of two new animated movies for theatres in 2021. The two films mentioned are “Spirit Riding Free,” which will hit the big screen on 14 th May 2021 and “The Bad Guys,” set to debut on 17 th September 2021. The second film
will be replacing “Spooky Jack,” a cartoon film from Universal, which was taken off the release calendar.
Still untitled, the “Spirit Riding Free” traces its origin to the DreamWorks Animation TV series on Netflix. This series was also inspired by a 2002 Oscar-nominated film titled the “Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron.”
The new animated adventure continues telling a story about an indestructible bond between a wild horse and a girl.
The Netflix series currently has 52 episodes, and there’s more content underway expected to hit screens this fall and in 2020. Director Elaine Bogan will be part of the new animation adventure, working alongside co-producer Karen Forster and writer Aury Wallington, who is also a creator
in the Netflix series. Elaine has enough experience in the animation field, having directed popular animation films like “Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia” and “3 Below”, to mention a few.
The second film, “The Bad Guys” features the lives of five notorious criminals who are attempting to start a new life. The five, Mr. Snake, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Shark, MS. Tarantula, and Mr. Piranha, are trying to turn a new leaf after retiring from a lifetime of successfully pulling off legendary heists.
Based on the best-selling book series with the same title, the animated comedy will be the first directorial feature for Hilary Winston and Pierre Perifel. This film will be created by producer Rebecca Huntley and Damon Ross, hitting the big screen in September in 2021.
Since Universal acquired DreamWorks in 2016, they seem focused on producing family-friendly films at a modest cost. The first title from DreamWorks that Universal distributed was “How to Train Your Dragon” released in 2019. That was the last film to the animated dragon trilogy that
earned $519 million globally.
Aside from reduced production costs, the studio benefits from selling ancillary goods that result from creating movies geared toward the younger audience. These goods include apparel, accessories, toys, and many others. DreamWorks is also planning to release “Boss Baby 2” in 2021, a sequel of the 2017 movie, which grossed $528 million in the box office.
