Silent House - Mirror of Iranian Society in IDFA International Competition; Directors Banned from Leaving Iran to Attend the EveThe documentary film Silent House, a mirror of the Iranian society, co-directed by Farnaz and Mohammadreza Jurabchian, will get a screening in the International competition category of the 35th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in the Netherlands, though the directors have been banned from leaving Iran to attend this prestigious cinematic event. The documentary film Silent House co-directed by Farnaz and Mohammadreza Jurabchian and edited by Hayedeh Safiyari is a joint production of Iran, France, Canada, Qatar, and the Philippines. In its world premiere in the International competition category of the 35th IDFA, this film has been nominated for the best documentary award, vying for the prize along with 12 documentaries from a variety of other countries.
The opening ceremony for the 35th edition of IDFA was held on 9 November, 2022, in Amsterdam, dedicated to four filmmakers including the Jurabchian siblings as well as a Chinese director who were unable to attend the prestigious cinematic event due to a ban issued by their home countries. The IDFA president Orwa Nyrabia commented on Silent House in a press conference, "From Iran, Farnaz and Mohammadreza Jurbchina take us to their family house. An extremely mature film, a saga in a way, a 100-year-old house in Tehran, Iran, a house of the upper-middle-class, a family that lived three generations there. The story of those who lived in the house is a mirror of the history of Iran since before the 1979 revolution until today; a journey that is deeply political and that takes us to a part or an aspect of Iran today that is I think very enlightening, because we rarely see that and our image of Iran comes usually from more stereotyped sources. So, this is a film not to miss and we believe will be seen everywhere around the world because it is very well-made." Silent House produced by Elaheh Nobakht under the banner of Eli Image company, the Jurabchian siblings with F&M Productions, and co-produced by Stephanie Lebrun, Jewel Maranan, and the National Film Board of Canada, is prepared to have its world premiere in IDFA. Tasvir Gostar Elaheh Parsi (Eli Image) run by Elaheh Nobakht is in charge of the global distribution of this documentary film. The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam aka IDFA is one of the most reputable documentary festivals in the world, the 35th round of which will feature films made by directors from all around the globe in several competition and out-of-competition categories. The latest edition of IDFA is held from 9-20 November, 2022, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The cast and crew of the 100-minute documentary film Silent House made in a period of six years are the following: Writer and director: Farnaz Jurabchian and Mohammadreza Jurabchian Director of photography: Mohammadreza Jurabchian Editing: Hayedeh Safiyari Music: Hamed Sabet Sound mixing and design: Ramin Abousedgh Narrators: Farnaz and Mohammadreza Jurabchian Poster and graphic design: Farhad Fozouni Narration: Narges Farshi, Farnaz and Mohammadreza Jurabchian Public Relations: Mansour Jahani Producers: Farnaz Jurabchian, Mohammadreza Jurabchian Co-production: Elaheh Nobakht, Stephanie Lebrun, Jewel Maranan, and the National Film Board of Canada A joint production of Iran, France, Canada, Qatar, and the Philippines, 2022.
