APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund announces the esteemed panel of judges.

With days left to apply for the APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund, we’re thrilled to announce the esteemed panel of judges.

Through support from Brisbane City Council, the Fund will award five $10,000 grants to assist the post-production, or marketing and distribution of Brisbane short film projects.

The introduction of the APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund is another integral part of Asia Pacific Screen Award’s commitment to connecting industry and fostering culturally diverse stories.

The panellists for the inaugural APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund are:

Queensland-based director Mairi Cameron released her first feature film, The Second (2018) on Stan and in cinemas. It is nominated for Best Australia Feature Film at the Screen Producers of Australia Awards. Mairi’s career spans over a decade including TV commercials and videos for some of Australia’s premiere musicians including Washington’s Sunday Best, which won Triple J Music Video of the Year. Her award-winning short film Milk (1999) was selected for official competition at Cannes and was pre-selected for an Academy Award. She is currently the Film Department Coordinator at SAE Creative Media Institute in Brisbane.

Randall Wood has 25 years of experience writing, directing and shooting documentaries in the Australian film industry. His films on music, science, gambling, natural history and humanitarian issues have won more than 30 filmmaking awards including the Grand Jury Award at the Slamdance International Film Festival, the Grand Prix at The World of Knowledge Science Film Festival, the Sydney Film Festival Dendy Award and prizes from the Australian Cinematographer’s Society and the AWGIE Awards. His films have competed at AFI, AACTA, ATOM and in the 1990s he twice won at the Queensland New Filmmakers Awards.

Maxine Williamson has a career that spans more than two decades in the film industry. Maxine was hugely influential in commencement of APSA and served as Associate Producer and Film Director for its first ten editions. She was director of Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival for all three editions and co-director of the 23rd Brisbane International Film Festival. Maxine has sat on countless international film festival juries and was General Manager of Dendy Cinemas for ten years.

Eligible projects include fiction, animation, documentary and youth, and must be 15-minutes or less. Applicants must be a resident of Brisbane and have at least one on-screen credit on a film that has screened at a film festival.

Applications for the APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund are submitted via online form and will close on 26 October 2018. Please reach out to the team if you need assistance with the application.

The 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards will be held at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 29 November. Tickets on sale now.
