The Exchange has secured the sales rights to PATRICKThe Exchange has secured the sales rights to PATRICK, the new film from top UK comedy director Mandie Fletcher (ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE, Miranda, Blackadder).
The film sees the debut of screenwriter Vanessa Davies, one of the industry's leading film publicists (all eight HARRY POTTER films, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY), whocreated the story based on her own true-life experiences. Davies produces along with Paul de Vos (BLOODY LONDON, ROMEO & JULIET 3D) and Sue Latimer (Ahead of the Class). Paul de Vos and Mandie Fletcher have co-written the script with Davies. Double Academy Award-winner Jenny Beavan (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, A ROOM WITH A VIEW) is costume designer and the editor is Nick Moore (BRIDGET JONE'S BABY, THE FULL MONTY, NANNY MCPHEE).
The family film tells the story of a young woman whose life is in a mess and is made much worse when she inherits her Grandmother's pug Patrick. The four-legged interloper proceeds to cause chaos but then something remarkable happens as Patrick, with all his stubby, stumpy attitude, begins to turn her life around.
The British family comedy reunites Fletcher with her multi award-winning Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders (SING, MINIONS, SHREK) who co-stars with her daughter Beattie Edmondson (BBC TV's Josh). Further casting to be announced shortly.
The film is being financed by Hindsight Media Services (THE KING'S SPEECH, Wolf Hall)with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures UK already securing distribution rights - including theatrical - for both the UK/Ireland under the Buena Vista International banner.
Brian O'Shea from The Exchange comments: "We are honoured to be representing PATRICK. Mandie Fletcher is one of the world's most gifted comedy directors and, combined with our global love of dogs, we know this film has the perfect pedigree to succeed in all markets".
Hindsight Chairman Tim Smith adds: "Hindsight had no hesitation in backing this project. This is one of the funniest and most charming scripts we have read in a long time and we know it has strong commercial potential".
The Exchange EFM' 17 line-up includes Timothy Olyphant/Thomas Mann's BEEF, Lin Oeding's OFFICE UPRISING, Award-winning documentary GLEASON, A STREET CAT NAMED BOB, KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE and RETALIATION, will introduce GHOST HOUSE and be screening MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH at EFM' 17 and is starting production on Stephanie Laing's IRREPLACEABLE YOU.
