Martin Sheen, Haley Joel Osment, Pablo Schreiber, and Katie Aselton Round Out Edward James Olmos’ THE DEVIL HAS A NAMEMartin Sheen (The Departed, Apocalypse Now), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense, Sex Ed), Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black, Den of Thieves), and Katie Aselton (Fun Mom Dinner, Father Figures) have closed out the cast of The Devil Has a Name directed by Edward James Olmos also starring Olmos, David Stratharin, Alfred Molina and Kate Bosworth. Principal photography commenced last week in Los Angeles. The dark comedy is fully financed and produced by Steve McEveety, Patrick Hibler and Rob McEveety of True Navigator Pictures. Storyboard Media is handling International sales and introduced the film to buyers this week in Berlin. ICM Partners will handle domestic sales.
Written by Rob McEveety and inspired by true events, the film centers on an unhinged oil baron who gets in a bruising standoff with a stubborn farmer after the water on his farm was poisoned by her company.
Sheen plays “Ralph Aegis”, an environmental lawyer with a colorful past and an axe to grind. Ralph takes Fred’s (Strathairn) case as a last stand against the corporate thugs he has fought against for decades. Osment plays “Alex Gardner” a failed actor and failing advertising agent, who is recruited by Gigi (Bosworth) to buy Fred’s land before he finds out it’s polluted. Failing at that, he sells his soul to Schreiber’s “Ezekiel”, an ambitious yet cruel pyromaniac, for the prospect of fame and fortune. Aselton is playing the role of “Olive Gore”, Shore’s high-powered, alcoholic attorney. She is the undisputed mercenary queen of the courtroom. She has no problem using any trick, legal or not, to get her clients off and bring their enemies down.
Sheen is best known for his roles in films such as Apocolypse Now and Badlands along with NBC’s “The West Wing” created by Aaron Sorkin where he earned several Golden Globe nominations. Sheen can most recently be seen in the Netflix feature, Come Sunday, opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor in addition to Warren Beatty’s critically acclaimed film Rules Don’t Apply for Fox. He currently stars on Netflix’s “Grace and Frankie” opposite Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Sam Waterston.
Osment will next be playing “Jerry” opposite Lily Collins in the new Ted Bundy biopic, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile for Voltage. He most recently starred in Bridey Elliot’s Clara’s Ghost which premiered at Sundance Film Festival last month. He has also starred on the hit comedy, “Silicon Valley”, for HBO and also appeared in the new seasons of The “X-Files”. The Oscar nominee plays “Dr. Stu Caillo” on Seth Rogen's “Future Man” series for Hulu which just got picked up for Season 2.
Schreiber can most recently be seen alongside Gerard Butler, 50 Cent and O’Shea Jackson Jr. in Christian Gudegast’s Den of Thieves for STX. He is currently in production on Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man alongside Ryan Gosling, Jon Bernthal and Claire Foy for Universal Pictures. Schreiber’s most recent TV credits include “American Gods” for Starz! and Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” which he earned a Primetime Emmy® Nomination for his role as ”George ‘Pornstache’ Mendez”.
Aselton can most recently be see in Warner Brother’s Father Figures starring Christopher Walken, J.K. Simmons, Owen Wilson and Ed Helms. Prior to she starred in Sundance Favorite Fun Mom Dinner directed by Aletha Jones and also starring Toni Colette, Molly Shannon, Bridget Everett and Adam Scott. She can next bee seen in Bill Holderman’s star studded ensemble Book Club alongside Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Richard Dreyfuss.
