Hillary Clinton at the Berlinale

     By Alex C. Deleon

As Berlinale  70 reaches the midpoint the biggest star so far, not likely to be eclipsed in the remaining days,  is none other than Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State, loser by a whisker to incumbent president Donald Trump in the last presidential election, and still a strong voice on the political scene.

The Berlinale is generaly considered to be the most political of all film festivals and Hillary's personal appearance here is certainly a giant feather in the political hat of the 70th edition.  The press conference was loaded with heavy questions and pivotal  replies.  Details when the videos I made are transcribed.  Re: President Trump, suffice it to say that she said this is one man rid of whom we must get!  -- She will lend her full support to whomever is eventually chosen to confront Trump in November.

This epochal Hillary Clinton portrait was conceived as a four part TV series but was presented as a unit in toto  at Sundance in January. Same treatment here.

Filmmaker Nanette Burstein (49) states that her purpose in making this film was to show the real person behind the torrents of hype, negative and positive, which have beclouded Hillary's public figure. Hillary herself  feels that the  picture which emerges is so honest that "she wouldn't mind having it as the epitaph on her tombstone".  Could there be a higher compliment?

Most people (myself included) had their minds negatively made up concerning Hillary Clinton after the last election which stuck us with Trump. This penetrating picture may serve to unmake, or remake, or reopen some hitherto closed down and made up minds.
