“CoPro Series”: Seven international series projects to pitch at the Berlinale Co-Production MarketOn February 16, the Berlinale Co-Production Market is hosting the second edition of its exclusive “CoPro Series” event: seven selected series projects will be looking for co-production and financing partners. Among the selection are The Illegal from Canada, a dystopian story by author and director Clement Virgo (The Book Of Negroes) and the Danish miniseries Lucky Per, which will be directed by Academy Award winner Bille August (Night Train To Lisbon). These are joined by the German project The Disappearance by Hans-Christian Schmid (Home for the Weekend) as well as the Norwegian crime series Brotherhood, the Dutch family drama Avrupa and the Israeli newsroom-based drama Wars Inc. One project will be presented in cooperation with the renowned series festival and co-production forum Séries Mania Paris, which is organised by Forum des Images, headed by Laurence Herszberg. From its 2015 edition, the series DNA by author and creator Torleif Hoppe (The Killing) is invited to Berlin, while one of the other six projects being presented at “CoPro Series” will have the opportunity to meet potential partners at this April's Séries Mania.
“CoPro Series” offers registered participants, producers and financiers from the pool of the Berlinale Co-Production Market and the “Drama Series Days” the opportunity to get to know the series’ creators at a networking get-together following their pitch, and arrange one-on-one meetings to discuss potential partnerships in more detail.
The event bears witness to the enormous market interest in qualitatively high-value series, and creates an active space for networking and exchange between the film and series industries. Series experts Peter Nadermann (Nadcon Film, Germany) and Jan de Clercq (Lumière Publishing, Belgium) are supporting the Berlinale Co-Production Market team as advisors.
“CoPro Series” is an exclusive event of the “Drama Series Days” (February 15 and 16, 2016), a joint initiative for series content by the industry platforms European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents.
Alongside the “Drama Series Days”, series also have a place in the festival programme of the Berlinale: a curated selection of high-quality series will again be presented within the framework of Berlinale Special Series at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The main partners of the Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 14-16, 2016) are the MDM – Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and Creative Europe – MEDIA, programme of the European Union.
