The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today that Dylan McDermott will receive the Festival’s prestigious Celebrity Tribute Award. BIFF Founder and Executive Director Leslie Vanderpool made the announcement.

We are proud to have Mr. McDermott on hand to receive the tribute presentation on Tuesday, December 6 at the Romora Bay Marina and Resort on Harbour Island, for the Annual Celebrity Tribute in honour of his outstanding contributions to the film industry.

Dylan McDermott’s career spans over a 30-year period with appearances in over 35 feature films. From his early start as a teenager in Connecticut in plays and attended acting school at the Jesuit-run Fordham University, as well as studying under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse.

In 1985, McDermott was spotted by an agent in his debut performance in Biloxi Blues on Broadway.
His first big break as an actor was in the hit film In the Line of Fire and through his connection with Clint Eastwood, McDermott was able to land his first major gig in The Practice.

His role as lawyer and law firm head Bobby Donnell in The Practice earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama and a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Ultimately expanding McDermott to stardom.

We cannot forget the stellar performances in scores of outstanding films from 1987 to present day including Steel Magnolias starring BIFF 2008 Tributee Daryl Hannah.

Dylan is not shy to prepare for his award winning roles as he added military training to his schedule for months before shooting Hamburger Hill a film about the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War.
Other roles in the first two seasons of American Horror Story, entitled American Horror Story: Murder House and American Horror Story: Asylum, portraying Ben Harmon and Johnny Morgan, were memorable.

He also starred as Lt. Carter Shaw on the TNT series Dark Blue and starred in CBS dramas Hostages opposite Toni Collette in Hostages, CBS drama pilot from writer-director Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros TV.

In 2003 Dylan starred along side Kate Bosworth in Wonderland, directed by James Cox a film about an American crime drama film, based on the real-life Wonderland Murders that occurred in 1981.

Dylan is no stranger to comedy as he starred in Home For The Holidays, directed by Jodie Foster and The Campaign with Will Ferrell, while winning us over in a drama with Morgan Freeman in directed by Antonie Fuqua in Olympus Has Fallen.

Dylan is most proud of his film BLIND, directed by Michael Mailer, written by John Buffalo Mailer, Executive Producer, Jennifer Gelfer, Alec Baldwin and Kelly Rabadi. BLIND, starring Alec Baldwin, Demi Moore and Dylan McDermott will be the Opening Night Film, Thursday, December 8 and also have a sneak peak in Harbour Island at the 2016 Bahamas International Film Festival.

Look out for Mr. McDermott’s upcoming films HUNTSVILLE and CLOVEHITCH.

McDermott is multitalented directing a stage production, a play called Short Eyes to launching his first Photography Exhibition in 2013 in Montreal, Quebec at Avenue Art Gallery as part of collaboration with Art Agent, Marina Cutler.

The Exhibition titled THE DYLAN PROJECT, MAKE SOME NOISE! McDermott tied his support for The V-Day Organization and love of photography together as the project is a way to bring attention and funds to this organization that supports women in various ways who have suffered violent acts of aggression.

BIFF 2016 takes place from Monday December 5 – 8 in Harbour Island and then to Nassau December 8 - 11. This year’s Festival will showcase 99 films from 26 different countries, including 33 features of which several are world or international premieres and nearly all Bahamian premieres.
