Congratulations to the HIFF39 AUDIENCE AWARD Winners presented by Hawaii News Now. The audience ballots have been tabulated and here the 2019 Festival winners, according to HIFF's audiences in attendance: 

 

BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE: YELLOW ROSE directed by Diane Paragas

An undocumented Filipina dreams of leaving her Texas town to pursue country music, but, this changes when her mom is suddenly captured by ICE agents. Terrified, she flees to Austin and embarks on a musical journey of self-discovery.

 

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: THE AUSTRALIAN DREAM directed by Daniel Gordon
When Aboriginal football player Adam Goodes called out someone who called him an ape, he triggered a national debate that brought to the surface the dark heart of racism beating in contemporary Australia.

 

BEST SHORT FILM: THE PIT WHERE WE WERE BORN directed by Alexander Bocchieri
A father and son reunite around the family 'imu of their Wai'anae farm, to reckon with a past that continues to color their future.

HIFF39 goes to the Maui, Kauai and the Big Island from November 21-24

HIFF is bring the South Korean smash film and Cannes Palme d'Or winner PARASITE to Kauai and the Big Island this weekend!

 

 

 

The 39th Hawai‘i International Film Festival presented by Halekulani may be over on Oahu but it continues onward on the neighbor islands—Maui, Kauai and the Big Island of Hawai‘i—from November 21 through 24! Fest favorites like PARASITE, YELLOW ROSE, MAUNA KEA: THROUGH THE KIA‘I LENS, THE AUSTRALIAN DREAM and BLOOD QUANTUM will be screening this weekend.
