“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” Opens in Select Theaters, November 6, 2009

The 47th New York Film Festival 2009 (NYFF09) presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, was held at the new state of the art Alice Tully Hall, September 25 - October 11, 2009. A special press screening of  "PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE," preceded the press conference with director Lee Daniels moderated by NYFF selection committee Melissa Anderson, at the Walter Reade Theater, on Thursday, October 1, 1:00 PM.

PRECIOUS, is a powerful, riveting, and triumphant film based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Set in Harlem, New York in 1987, the story depicts the horrific life of a sixteen-year-old named Claireece 'Precious' Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) weighing 300 pounds, and HIV positive who endures illiteracy, physical, and sexual abuse by her parents at the onset of age three. This movie is a sure Oscar contender and possibly 2009 Oscar winner!

PRECIOUS, is winner of the Audience award, and TVE Otra Mirada award, 2009 San Sebastian International Film Festival, winner of the Audience award, Grand Jury Prize award, and Special Jury Prize award, 2009 Sundance Film Festival; winner of People's Choice award, 2009 Toronto Film Festival.
