Percy Adlon's MAHLER ON THE COUCH Opens the 2011 New York Jewish Film FestivalBy Maria Esteves – January 24, 2011 The 20th New York Jewish Film Festival 2011 (NYJFF2011), Opening Night New York Premiere of MAHLER ON THE COUCH, directed by Percy Adlon and Felix Adlon was held at the Walter Reade Theater, Wednesday, January 12, 6:00 PM. A special Q&A session immediately followed with director Percy Adlon moderated by associate curator director, Aviva Weintraub, New York Jewish Film Festival. To Live for You! To Die for You! MAHLER ON THE COUCH, is an extraordinary film that examines the life of the great Austrian composer and conductor Gustav Mahler (1860-1911). Based on true events this film celebrates Mahler’s 151 birthday and 100 years of his death. The story set in 1900’s begins with Mahler (Johannes Silberschneider) receiving a surprise letter in the mail triggering life-changing events that influenced the composition of the Adagio from the 10th Symphony; from therapy session with Sigmund Freud (Karl Markovics) to ultimately his mortality. The superb soundtrack is filled with Mahler’s music.
