NYFF 2011 Premiere of The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito) in Theaters October 14

By Maria Esteves – October 13, 2011

The 49th New York Film Festival 2011 (NYFF 2011) presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center press screening of THE SKIN I LIVE IN, directed by Pedro Almodovar was held at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, 12:00 pm. A live press conference immediately followed with director Pedro Almodovar, casts members Antonio Banderas, and Elena Anaya moderated by NYFF program director Richard Pena.

Questions posed by Richard Pena to actor Banderas and director Almodovar included: What was it like to work with Pedro this time? Echoes and traces from earlier films, how do you see it within your work from the beginning? Many people said, "The film is a departure." Yet there is much in here that watched and loved your films can really certainly see against pressed.

THE SKIN I LIVE IN is a spellbinding, dark comedy, psychological thriller based on the novel Mygale (Tarantula) by Thierry Jonquet. Set in El Cigarral estate, Toledo, Spain, 2012, well known skin surgeon Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) who tragically looses his wife from burn injuries sustained in a car accident is compelled to create an artificial skin resistant to burns. In need of a specimen to perform the experimental study, he uses Vicente (Jan Cornet), a young man who raped his daughter Norma (Blanca Suarez) and successfully creates Gal Transgenesis from his medical facility in his estate.
