45th New York Film Festival Premiere of I’M NOT THERE Opens at Selected Theaters, November 21, 2007

By Maria Esteves - October 30, 2007

The 45th New York Film Festival (NYFF) 2007, Premiere film I'M NOT THERE, directed by Todd Haynes, was held at the Rose Theater, Time Warner Center, Thursday,  October 4, 8:30pm.  The festival presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center was sponsored by SARDEGNA and The New York Times.

I'M NOT THERE is a compelling, powerful, and brilliant film that depicts the life and music of the legendary Bob Dylan using multiple stories to describe the harsh realities of our time. The stories through the film are Woody Guthrie (Marcus Carl Franklin), describe boy Dylan earlier years; Jack Rollins (Christian Bale), trades the limelight to become a born again Christian; Arthur Rimbaud (Ben Whishaw) describe Dylan as a poet; Bobbie Clark (Heath Ledger), an actor who struggles with marital and social issues; Jude Quinn (Cate Blanchett), describe Dylan ultimate rejection by fans during his musical transition from folk to rock. Lastly, Billy the Kid (Richard Gere), who's secluded life-style dramatically changes when his town is faced with socio-economic hardship.  The insightful closing songs "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Knocking on Heaven's Door" clearly summarized the film.
