ASPEN FILM ASSOCIATE FILM PROGRAMMER


The Associate Film Programmer is a year-round full-time position responsible for assisting in the
programming of Aspen Film’s festivals, film series and presentations. This position also coordinates all
aspects of Aspen Film’s youth and adult education programs. The Associate Film Programmer reports
to the Program Director and works closely with Aspen Film’s Programming staff.


Programming (70%)
Collaborate with Programming team to create Aspen Film’s annual festivals, film series, member
screenings, special presentations, etc.


• Research, review and recommend domestic and international films.
• Negotiate with distributors, producers, filmmakers and sales agents.
• Help program and coordinate panels, tributes, and other special presentations.
• Serve on and help coordinate volunteer Screening Committees.
• Prepare program-related content for program guides, brochures, press releases, web site, etc.
• Assist in management of Programming budget including securing written estimates, approving
invoices for payment and reimbursement.
• Provide on-site support for all events including filmmaker coordination and hosting, assisting with
Screening and Q&A stage presence and set-up, introducing films, hosting Question & Answer sessions,
and coordinating with theater technical operations and projection staff


Education Outreach (30%)
Develop and implement film appreciation, curriculum enrichment, media literacy and production
opportunities for youth (pre-K - grade 12) and adults.


• Create and implement education opportunities youth and adults including school and family
programs, hands-on workshops, series, panels, etc.
• Research, preview and recommend films for education programs.
• Create and actively communicate with a national network of education programmers and resources.
• Serve as primary education liaison to communicate regularly with schools, youth organizations, and
relevant collaborating community partners.
• Manage education-related resources including education database, files, correspondence, video
library, viewing equipment, etc.)
• Create and distribute education-related materials for program guides, curriculum guides, brochures,
press releases, website, etc.
• Prepare quantitative education reports including surveys for funders, Board reports, etc.


Desired Experience/Professional Background


Undergraduate college degree or higher. Must be film knowledgeable with three+ years demonstrated
experience in film programming. Goal oriented team player with demonstrated ability to take initiative
and work collaboratively. Ideal candidate has eye for both detail and big picture. Strong verbal and
written communication skills. Comfortable public speaker. Experience in planning and executing
multiple projects and/or events simultaneously on deadline. Macintosh computer and software
knowledgeable including Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro or equivalent database software. Technical and
/or production background a plus. Knowledge of graphic design programs, (Photoshop, InDesign)
helpful. Able to work evenings and weekends during festival and other event production cycles.
