Aruba International Film Festival

Aruba International Film Festival Year 5 Kicks Off October 7-11 2015.

The Aruba International Film Festival (AIFF) quickly became the international film community’s “must-attend” summer event after its opening in July 2010. After 4 intensely exciting years, the festival took a break in 2014 for a complete makeover and now is back with full force to celebrate year 5 from October 7th-11th, 2015.

The festival offers a pleasurable and inviting atmosphere for filmmakers, press and film lovers. It serves to not only develop an understanding and appreciation of the art of cinema and filmmaking, but also to inspire, educate and promote emerging local and regional filmmaking talent. This in turn has helped position Aruba as a center of art, culture and creativity, and as a viable destination for international film and commercial productions.

The AIFF was founded in 2010 by film producers Jonathan Vieira and Giuseppe Cioccarelli, with artistic direction by 30-year industry veteran Claudio Masenza. Previous editions of the festival have showcased a diverse array of critically acclaimed fiction films and documentaries from every corner of the globe, and have attracted such notable industry names as:

Hollywood leading man Richard Gere (Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman)
Multi Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker (Raging Bull, The Aviator)
Mexican writer/director Guillermo Arriaga (The Burning Plain, Babel)...

Red Carpet Interview with Barbara Mori at AIFF 2011

actress Barbara Mori

I spoke with the luminous Uruguayan/Mexican actress Barbara Mori on her way up the red carpet during the Aruba International Film Festival the night of her Aruba premier of the Hollywood/Bollywood film KITES (2010/1). She approached me and greeted me with a kiss.

ME: Oh, I get a kiss. So sweet! Hi Barbara, I'm Vanessa with filmfestivals.com. Can you tell us a little bit about your film KITES and how it is to be here? I mean, you're Uruguay born and now a Mexican actress and you’re here tonight to present your Hollywood/Bollywood film. What does it feel like to be here in Aruba?

BARBARA: Well, it's crazy, I never imagined myself in a Bollywood movie.I never watched any Bollywood movie before KITES but its kind of an exciting experience. I think the best of my career until now. It’s my first English movie and my first action movie so a lot of things different between what I have done before and this but it’s you know, amazing. I was working with Hrithik Roshan that is a huge star there and then the producer, the director. It was something really different and nice.

ME: How did you come across this Bollywood role?

BARBARA: I don’t know. The producer watched a film of mine. I don’t know why. That’s life! And he liked it and he called me and we met in LA and we loved each other.

ME: Which producer?

BARBARA: Bollywood Rakesh Rohan. The producer and a writer. So, we connected so well so quickly that they said, ‘ok, I want you’ and I said, ‘okay, I want you’ because I loved the story so…

ME: Do you think you’ll start watching more Bollywood movies now that you’re in one?

BARBARA: Yeah, maybe somethimes.

ME: And do you like Aruba? Is it your first time here?

BARBARA: Yeah, I love it. I think it’s amazing. I went to take a look this morning to go around a little bit and it’s amazing. But I have to come back with more time. You know?

ME: Yeah, of course. Well, I have tons more questions for you but I’ll be interviewing you tomorrow so for now, good luck and see you inside for the film screening.

BARBARA: Okay, see you inside. Thank you!

And then the exquisite and lovely Barbara was engulfed by impatient fans screaming for her autograph and we all made our way into the Paseo Herencia Theater for KITES.
