The International Animation Film Market (Mifa) opens
Last year, in 2012, you told us about the Territory Focus, the new meeting format spotlighting particular regions or countries to facilitate international co-productions through a better understanding of the different territories.
We are renewing this format as it was effective and worked very well last year. This year, we are focusing on Poland, Russia, South Africa, Japan and the United Kingdom.
There are some other meeting formats too this year?
Indeed, firstly, the Share With sessions offer producers a privileged access to head buyers of TV programmes and distributors of short and feature films, with twenty sessions scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday.
Secondly, the Mifa Talks provide a forum for reflection with 3 meetings about 3 formats – TV, features and short films. In order to promote a diversity of perspectives, they were designed with carefully chosen partners. For TV shows, we have invited a Consultant at Media Valley and former Head of the Youth Unit at M6, Natalie Altmann, and for feature films, we are relying on our regular partner, Europa Distribution.
Finally, to design the meeting focusing on short films, we collaborated with the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market.
You already mentioned in 2012 about wanting to highlight short film production and develop the participation of buyers and programmers in this concept...
This is why we have put it on the programme of the Mifa Talks sessions and invited heads of short film acquisitions to the Share With sessions. And for the first time, there will be a Unifrance stand at the Market with Christine Gendre, Head of Short Films at Unifrance, and Alexandre Charlet, Producer and President of the Commission court métrage.
In 2014, we want to take the concept even further.
Tell us about the exhibitors...
Once again this year, we will be welcoming new delegations, including a strong South American presence with Chile, Colombia, Brazil. There will be an “umbrella” area with a South African delegation, just like at the Creative Focus with its Heading South Focus.
Have a great Mifa 2013!
