Elated Soumyaa Behrens with her family- winner of Best Feature MIAFF 2017
Soumyaa Behrens is an educator at the prestigeous San Francisco Documentary Film Institute. Also an actress and filmmaker Behrens is the recipient of the Best Feature MIAFF 2017. Here is her interview with MIAFF director about channeling the spirit of Abina a slave who fought a legal case as a slave against her "owner". The case was dug up more than 100 years later in library archives. Behrens talks about Abina's story giving her a voice so many years later.
