A Musivision FILMS / ANIMAZE   -      Filmfestivals.com Production

Founded  by  Laurie Gordon (Montreal International Animation Film Festival  - Animaze Festival founder) and  Bruno Chatelin (filmfestivals.com co founder and Major Buzz Factory consulting founder curator of the BEST FOR FESTS film selection for the circuit).

The objective of the Animation Day in Cannes is to facilitate the promotion of Animation during the Cannes Film Festival which does not traditionally offer a window for animators besides the likes of Pixar or Disney.

Animaze – Le Miaff and filmfestivals.com decided in 2015 to take on this mission and provide a place for networking, fun, and promotion.

Animation That Matters Award to Yellow Submarine

We will screen a 8 minutes segment of the film specially cut for ADIC from the restaured version of the film for its 50 th anniversary.

The Animation that Matters Award for ADIC 2018 goes to Yellow Submarine....of course all you need is love...(and the beatles) Gerald Pottertion key contributing animator to receive the prize designed by artist PAB.

The Beatles’ legendary animated hit film YELLOW SUBMARINE is returning to cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 8 July 2018. An unmissable cinema event, this momentous big-screen revival will give generations of audiences the golden opportunity to revisit Pepperland for the 50 th anniversary of the film’s original release.

On the occasion of The Animation Day in Cannes the film will be  awarded "The AnimationThat Matters Award" it will be remitted in Cannes to Gerald Potterton for his contribution as one of the main animators, and one of the last alive.

Synopsis

An icon of psychedelic pop culture, Yellow Submarine is a colourful musical spectacle and an exhilaratingly joyful cinematic experience for all ages – filled with visual invention, optical illusions, word play, and glorious, glorious music.

Once upon a time….or maybe twice….there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland, 80,000 leagues under the sea it lay, a place where beauty, happiness, and music reign supreme.

But this peaceful harmony is shattered when the Blue Meanies invade with their army of storm bloopers, apple bonkers, snapping turtle turks, and the menacing flying glove in an attempt to stop the music and drain Pepperland of all colour and hope.  So it’s The Beatles to the rescue, as our animated heroes team up with Young Fred and the Nowhere Man and journey across seven seas to free Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, make peace with the Meanies, and restore music, colour, and love to the world.

But beyond all the glorious music, Yellow Submarine is a landmark in animation, with Heinz Edelmann’s inspired art direction conjuring up a non-stop parade of wildly different styles and techniques.  From the paper-doll residents of Pepperland, to the tinted photography of the soot covered roofs and smokestacks Liverpool, the menagerie of fanciful characters in the Sea of Monsters, the kaleidoscopic colour-splashed rotoscoping of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the vertigo inducing op-art of the Sea of Holes, and the triumphant euphony of the It’s All Too Much finale, the film is simply a joy.

Welcome and introduction words by Laurie Gordon (Montreal International Film Festival) and Bruno Chatelin (filmfestivals.com

Animation Financing conversation: What's the Catch What's the Difference?

From grassroots to government institutions, the art of film financing is personal and strategic. ADIC presents this lively panel on the various financial models from the UK, Nordic countries. This is an  open discussion encouraging audience participation.

Panelists: Sally Griffith (Director of Cinema at Chapter (Cardiff) and BFI Film Hub Wales) and Peter Vähäkylä of Finn Animation and other surprise guests moderated by Laurie Gordon director of Animaze Montreal International Animation Festival.

A few other unformal presentations and focuses with interaction from the audience.

Animation that Matters Award to Yellow Submarine

Another strong element in our DNA was the desire to focus on films that matter. Our panels have been focused each past years on this question 'will animation save our world"? This film gives us a g=few answers: All you need is love...

In 2016 we presented BILAL  by Ayman Jamal from Barajoun Entertainment (Dubai) the first Animation that Matters Award.  www.bilalmovie.com

In 2017 we delivered three Animation that Matter Awards to Iqbal by Michel Fuzellier and Babak Payami, Junod by Shinichiro Kimura, Release from from Heaven by Ali Noori Oskouei.

These prizes recognise the positive values and messages in movies that matter and make us grow as human beeings. The inspiration came to Bruno Chatelin from his Columbia TriStar days (Sony) when David Puttnam initiated that catch line for the Studio he was running.

"Bruno Chatelin commented: listening to David's vision, it struck me a lot at this time, and I think that today's world needs even more films of these calibers. I am also impressed to see Cannes welcome such initiatives as Positive Cinema week, Better World Forum, Festival Sacred for Beauty, with Wim Wenders in town last yearwith Mgnr Dario Vigano (prefect of communication for Vatican) coming to Cannes with a message from the pope and returning this year with his finished film on Pope Francis."

Yonathan Parienti  (Horyou.com CEO) , Laurie Gordon (Founder of Montreal International Animation Film Festival co founder of and Animation Day in Cannes) and Bruno Chatelin (founder of filmfestivals.com and Animation Day in Cannes) will remit the prizes

The accolade will be remitted for the film to Gerald Potterton on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the film release.
