The art of Gianluigi Toccafondo protagonist of the fifth edition of Animaphix.
From 18 to 22 September, Animaphix will return to Bagheria, a film festival that is once again an important international showcase dedicated to author's animated films. Preview screenings, exhibitions, meetings and live performances will make Sicily the cradle of the most evocative and visionary contemporary animation. The Festival, which will be characterized by an atmosphere of connections and contaminations between cinema, visual arts, music and literature, will also have a showcase in Palermo, at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, with various activities.
The undisputed protagonist of the 2019 edition is the art of Gianluigi Toccafondo which will be honored by a complete retrospective: from the short films La Coda (1989) to Briganti without legend (2012), passing through the commercials (Levi's Jeans and Sambuca Molinari) and the initials ( Carosello with Elio and the Storie Tese, Strucult, Tunnel, and the one for the Venice Film Festival); ending with the music videos (Federation Tunisienne De Football for C'Mon Tigre) and the works for the opera, Toccafondo's art manages to create suggestive scenarios between reality and imagination, dragging the viewer into a dance of shapes and colors in continuous transformation.
The artist, who also signs the manifesto of the 2019 edition of the Festival, will also have a solo show with about a thousand original works entitled Starting from the queue and a cine-concert that will combine the visual art of the San Marino artist with the music of the great Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt.

The new edition changes the dates, but not the objectives. "This year Animaphix will open its doors in September, at a time of the year unpublished for the history of the event - underlines the director Rosalba Colla -" A decision resulted from the succession of a series of critical issues that during the year made risk the very existence of the Festival ". And he continues: "A special edition, a rupture in some ways, made possible mainly thanks to the tenacity and enthusiasm of a team - almost all of the female - and to the generous contribution of a part of the community that believes in a change like us through culture ”.
The Festival, conceived by the QB Association, will be carried out thanks to the support of the Sicilia Film Commission - which operates within the Sports Tourism and Entertainment Department of the Sicilian Region - within the Sensi Contemporanei project. “Animaphix now represents a consolidated reality, to which the Sicilian Region has guaranteed attention and support also in the past when other institutions were less attentive, and it is proposed as a reference point for the diffusion of auteur animation cinema, even outside of the borders of Sicily - declares Alessandro Rais, Director of the Sicilia Film Commission - setting itself in the wake of the interventions implemented by this structure to support the realization of film festivals and festivals able to offer a high quality artistic program, increasing the attractiveness of the Sicilian territory both from a cultural and tourist point of view ”.
The Municipality of Bagheria will co-finance the Festival for the first time. "We proudly wanted to sponsor and support Animaphix - the film festival born in Bagheria, which stood out on the international scene of auteur animation - states the Mayor Filippo Maria Tripoli - not only for the extraordinary work done to enhance the city of Bagheria, but also and above all because through the Festival it is possible to produce income for all the related tourist industry. " Also the Councilor for culture Daniele Nicola Vella reiterates the importance of the Festival for the re-launch of Bagheria, and underlines: "The choice to marry this project, realized in one of the most prestigious cultural sites of our territory - Villa Cattolica - strengthens the the idea of a city that we want to propose, that of an open, inclusive, innovative and modern place, which welcomes events such as Animaphix, able to reactivate the social and cultural fabric of the community ".
