Saga Films Locks Multi-Title Deal with Lightning Entertainment

saga.PNG

Independent sales, distribution and acquisitions company SAGA FILMS today announced a multi-title deal with LIGHTNING ENTERTAINMENT for films including Freezer starring Golden Globe® winner Dylan McDermott, Craig Clyde’s Storm Rider, Australian romcom Until She Came Along starring Rachael Taylor and Josh Lawson, and Warren. P. Sonoda’s comedy Servitude.

The deal will see SAGA FILMS acquire all rights (except theatrical) for the four LIGHTNING ENTERTAINMENT signature library titles in the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong and Macau.

“Lightning Entertainment represents one of the largest libraries of high-quality pictures in today's independent marketplace,” said SAGA FILMS Vice-President of Global Sales & Acquisitions Brett Lauter. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with them to deliver these commercial titles to our Pan-Asia audience, as we continue to expand our slate.”

Directed by Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers, Rome) and starring Golden Globe® winner Dylan McDermott and Peter Facinelli (The Twilight Saga series), Freezer trails Robert (McDermott), an ordinary guy who finds himself faced with extraordinary circumstances after being locked in a freezer by Russian gangsters claiming he pay his debts.

Touching family drama Storm Rider follows spoiled teenager Dani (Danielle Chuchran), who loses everything when her father is put into jail. Forced to live with her uncle Sam (Kevin Sorbo) on a farm without horses to ride and to train, a sad Dani takes care of a young mule and begins to learn what really matters.

Written and directed by Rob Sitch and starring Rachael Taylor (Transformers, Red Dog) and Josh Lawson (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), Until She Came Along follows Ben (Lawson), a twenty-something up-and-coming marketing guru who is invited to his old school to speak at a careers event. There he meets old classmate Alex (Taylor), and finds their mutual attraction rekindled, beginning a life-changing event for Ben as he starts to question his career so far, and the direction of his life ahead.

Featuring Joe Dinicol (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and John Bregar (Kick-Ass 2), Servitude follows a group of frustrated waiters who take over their kitschy steakhouse restaurant in one final, glorious, revenge-filled night after discovering they are all to be fired.

SAGA FILMS most recently acquired a trio of films following its activities at the Toronto International Film Festival, including the Warwick Thornton-directed Sweet Country, Vestige starring Mickey Rourke, and Kyle Rideout’s Eadweard. Launched in August 2017, SAGA FILMS is backed by sister-company RED APOLLO GROUP and has a team with more than a decade of experience distributing films from around the world into China.
