Saban Films Inks Output Deal with Mongrel Media

Partnership will see Mongrel releasing Saban Films’ 2018 North American Slate in Canada

Los Angeles-based film acquisition and distribution company Saban Films is partnering with Toronto-based Mongrel Media to release their 2018 North American titles in Canada. This will create a distribution pipeline in North America with a slate of films which include: Roland Joffe’s The Forgiven starring Forest Whitaker and Eric Bana; Alexandros Avranas’ True Crimes starring Jim Carrey and Charlotte Gainsbourg; and Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms’ Small Town Crime starring John Hawkes and Octavia Spencer. Saban Films has continued to increase their output over the last few years, having released 30 films in the U.S. since its launch in May 2014, with another 22 acquired and slated to be released through 2018.

“We have developed a close partnership with Mongrel over the past couple years, having released 14 films with Andrew Frank and the rest of the team, and delivering strong numbers across the board,” said Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration and working together for our 2018 slate.”

Saban Films continues to yield success amongst prestige-driven commercial films, with a slate encompassing critically acclaimed theatrical films such as: The Homesman starring Hilary Swank, Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep; Tom Tykwer’s A Hologram for the King starring Tom Hanks with Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions; and star-driven premiere VOD titles including I Am Wrath and The Forger both starring John Travolta; Ric Roman Waugh’s Shot Caller starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lake Bell;  and one of the highest grossing Ultra VOD films of all time with Rob Zombie’s horror thriller 31.

Mongrel’s Vice President, Sales & Acquisitions Andrew Frank added, “Mongrel began its partnership with Saban with their first release, The Homesman.  Bill [Bromiley], Ness [Saban], and Jonathan [Saba] have a keen eye for genre and an astute awareness of consumer tastes.  We look forward to continuing our already successful partnership with this new output deal.”

Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban Films with Andrew Frank from Mongrel Media.

Saban Films’ upcoming titles include the Ethan Hawke Action/Thriller 24 Hours to Live and Hangman starring Al Pacino. Most recent titles include Taran Killam’s Killing Gunther starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, War on Everyone starring Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña, and Theo James, and The Girl with All the Gifts starring Gemma Arterton and Glenn Close.
