Rosanna Arquette introduces Arthur Cohn at the Israel Fest in LA for his 2019 IFF Lifetime Achievement Award

Rosanna Arquette:

"It means everything to be here tonight to join with the Israel Film Festival in honoring one of my dearest friends in cinema—the wonderful, the one and only Arthur Cohn.

We all know Arthur Cohn the filmmaker. The proud son of Zionists, whose father saved so many Jewish lives during World War II and wrote many of the laws of the new state of Israel. The producer of twenty-eight unforgettable films and documentaries, six of which have won the Academy Award. A man who was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I’ve been very fortunate to work with Arthur. The qualities that make him a great producer also make him the perfect friend. He is a true gentleman of the old school. He is kind. He is loyal. He is completely dedicated. Everything he does—from the first line of the script to the final frame in the editing room—is a labor of love. He will devote years of his life to making a dream come true. And when he asks you to be part of that dream, you say yes. Because he means it.

Ten years ago, Arthur told me about a book he’d acquired the rights to, The Etruscan Smile. I don’t think the script had been written yet, but he believed in this movie, and he wanted me to do it. And over the years the script came in, these brilliant directors came in, this amazing actor Brian Cox and the perfect cast came in… and I was the lucky one who got to see Arthur bring this beautiful story to life.

Eleanor Roosevelt said that “the world belongs to the person brave enough to believe in the beauty of his dreams.” This makes Arthur a true citizen of the world. Everywhere he goes, his dreams make friends. And I am so proud to call myself his friend."
