Fundamental Films has picked up the spec script “Hummingbird” by John McClain

In a competitive situation, Fundamental Films has picked up the spec script “Hummingbird” by John McClain. In the vein of “John Wick” and “Lucy,” Hummingbird tells the story of a female black-ops assassin, who discovers she’s more than just a hired gun, she’s an entirely new breed of weapon.

Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Åkerström will direct.  Fundamental Films’ Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon will produce the project alongside Todd Garner for Broken Road Productions. Fundamental’s Gary Glushon will executive produce with Broken Road’s Jeremy Stein. UTA will represent domestic rights.

McClain was recently selected as a 2016 Sundance Story Lab Fellow for his script Marfa. Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Åkerström burst onto the scene in 2015 with their short film Reset, which won multiple awards including the Silver Méliès for Best European Short, Prix Du Jury at Utopiales and the Best International Short at Fantasia. More recently, they directed all of the cinematic content for the next installment of the successful Battlefield Video Game franchise, Battlefield One, which had a budget of over $150 million. When the first trailer for Battlefield One premiered earlier this year, it became the most-liked trailer in the history of YouTube within 3 days.

Kryler and Åkerström are represented by UTA and Jon Kanak at Magnet Management, and McClain is also repped by UTA.

Broken Road recently wrapped True Memoirs of an International Assassin for Netflix with Kevin James starring and Jeff Wadlow directing.  They are currently in production on Naked for Netflix starring Marlon Wayans and Regina Hall with Mike Tiddes directing.  Next up is Cadaver for Screen Gems with Shay Mitchell starring and Diederik van Rooijen directing, Tag at New Line with Ed Helms and Tracy Morgan starring with Jeff Tomsic directing, Vacation Friends for Fox with Ice Cube starring and Jonathan Goldstein and John Daley directing, as well as the Untitled Rebel Wilson Romantic Comedy at New Line with Rebel Wilson starring and Ben Palmer directing.

Fundamental Films is currently in post-production on 24 Hours to Live with Ethan Hawke and Replicas with Keanu Reeves.
