![]() Breakthrough Entertainment Heads to AFM With an Exciting Roster of Releases Highlighted by Two New Horror Features,
The Film Studio Brings a Strong Roster of Horror Genre Films Topped Off with Some
Nat Abraham President and Partner, Breakthrough Entertainment stated: “Breakthrough continues to develop and produce very strong film conceptswith very talented independent filmmakers like Black Fawn Films and 5’7 Films. We have become established as a leader in the independent horror space in Canada and will put these new feature films front and centre at AFM as they illustrate our growing stake in the genre.”
On the heals of their successful U.S. release (with distributor Shout! Factory) of their gruesome human bug thriller BITE, the Black Fawn guys continue their commitment to bring entertaining scary films back to screens with Let Her Out. This film follows Helen, a bike courier who suffers a traumatic accident. As she recovers, she begins to experience strange episodic-blackouts, hallucinations, and night terrors-that lead her to discover that she has a benign growth that is the remnants of a ‘vanishing twin’ absorbed in utero. Over time, the tumor manifests itself as the dark and demented version of a stranger. As Helen’s emotional and psychological state begins to deteriorate, she begins to act out in psychotic episodes -influenced by her evil twin- making her a danger to herself and her best friend, Molly. It’s only a matter of time before this evil side of Helen will take her over completely.
Leading into AFM Let Her Out has been sold to the following: United Kingdom (Signature Entertainment), Germany (I-ON New Media, through Palatin Media), Poland (Wistech Media) with a theatrical release, Japan (Gaga Corporation), South Korea (Movement Pictures), and Movie Cloud in Taiwan. After a sold out premiere at Fantasia 2016 film festival and stellar ‘must see’ reviews, Breakthrough and Black Fawn’s next film ‘Bed of the Dead’ channeling horror films from the 70’s and 80’s is surely one that will be captivating audiences worldwide seeking the thrill of horror. Directed by Jeff Maher (Cinematographer of Antisocial, BITE and Let Her Out), This film tells a tale of two young couples out for a night of debauchery at the city’s oldest sex club and find themselves stuck on a haunted bed where leaving means suffering some gruesome fate. Plagued with frightening hallucinations, they must figure out the bed’s secret before they are picked off one by one. Breakthrough expects more international pick-ups for Bed of the Dead at AFM in addition to the film's theatrical release picked up in Poland by Wistech Media.
Added to Breakthrough’s frightful horror list for AFM is the recent premiere of ‘The Haunted House on Kirby Road’ by duo, Producer, Adam Rodness and Director, Stu Stone from 5'7 Films, who the studio also partnered with to produce. This scary urban legend horror tale was winner of the Best Horror Feature at the 2016 Toronto Independent Film Festival, and recently Best Director at Tucson Terror Fest. Working with Breakthrough Entertainment, 5’7 Films was able to get incredibly creative with their vision. Knowing the importance of CGI + special effects in a horror film, 5’7 films went completely outside the box, creating all death scenes and special effects using practical magic, utilizing the same magic team who produced the show of iconic illusionist, Criss Angel. The film was recently released on iTunes for download-to-own on October 24th and to rent from October 24 to November 30th, and heading to Canadian broadcaster Super Channel in December 2016.
Capping off Breakthrough’s stellar titles in other genres including family entertainment, the studio will be bringing their hit family classic feature, ‘L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables’. The first film in the series has been watched by families worldwide through broadcasters Corus Entertainment in Canada, PBS in the United States, ITV in the UK, ARD in Germany, and a recent theatrical release in Australia and New Zealand. With the success of the first installment in the L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables film series, and the ordering of the next two films by Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment’s YTV, Breakthrough Entertainment has s now secured the rights to globally represent merchandising interests related to their new Anne of Green Gables film franchise.
