Arclight Films is handling international rights to HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN

Leading entertainment company, Arclight Films  is presenting the anticipated screen adaptation of Here Are The Young Men, written and directed by filmmaker Eoin C. Macken, to buyers for the first time at the upcoming American Film Market, announced the company’s chairman and CEO, Gary Hamilton. Currently in post-production, the film is adapted from Rob Doyle’s acclaimed Irish novel of the same name.


Travis Fimmel has joined the previously announced cast which includes Dean-Charles Chapman (“Game of Thrones”, “1917”) Finn Cole (“Peaky Blinders”, “Fast and Furious 9”), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch”, “Thoroughbreds”) and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (“Sing Street”, “Vikings”).


Arclight Films is handling international rights to the feature and will introduce the project to buyers at the AFM where they will also debut market screenings. ICM and CAA Media Finance are joint repping the US and Canadian rights to the film.


Here Are The Young Men is set in 2003, and follows the last summer of three Dublin high school graduates - aimless Matthew (Chapman), his charismatic and deranged friend Kearney (Cole), their precocious friend Rez (Walsh-Peelo) – as they embark on an epic binge to celebrate a future without limits but a shocking catastrophe sends them spiralling and forces them to face the most daunting challenge of their lives, the demon inside.


The film is being produced by Hail Mary Pictures’ Richard Bolger (Cardboard Gangsters) and Union Entertainment Group’s Noah C Haeussner (Arctic), with Edwina Casey co-producing. Foton Pictures, Paul W.S. Anderson, Andrew Davies Gans, Conor Barry, Michael Raimondi, Emerson Machtus, Carlos Cuscó, Dearbhla Regan and Gary Shortall are serving as executive producers. This film was made with the support of Screen Ireland, Funny Leopard, Bending Light, Glanzrock Productions and EGG Studios. It was shot on location in Ireland.


“From the beloved novel to the big screen, this is a coming of age story that resonates with audiences around the world,” commented Hamilton. “We look forward to showing this beautifully shot film, highlighting the talent of these superb up and coming actors, for the first time to buyers in the market.”


Arclight’s market slate also includes action thriller Twist, a modern interpretation of the Charles Dicken’s classic starring Michael Caine and Lena Heady, the haunting thriller Let it Snow, the true-life prison break story, Escape From Pretoria, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber, sci-fi thriller Possessor starring Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Sean Bean, Jennifer Jason Leigh, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, and the action thriller Long Gone Heroes starring Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and Maggie Q.


Dean-Charles Chapman is represented by Troika & WME. Anya Taylor-Joy is represented by Troika, CAA and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson. Finn Cole represented by Troika and WME. Ferdia Walsh-Peelo is represented by Independent and WME. Travis Fimmel is represented by Paradigm.

Hail Mary Pictures was set up in 2018 by Ireland-based Richard Bolger and Edwina Casey. Their mission is to create bold, director-led films that are in conversation with concerns for our future. The company’s debut film was HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN directed by Eoin C Macken and supported by Screen Ireland (formerly Irish Film Board), starring Anya-Taylor Joy, Finn Cole and Travis Fimmel. They are currently developing an exciting slate of projects with a focus on elevated genre.


Richard and Edwina initially worked together at another Irish production company, most notably collaborating on the IFTA nominated CARDBOARD GANGSTERS directed by Mark O'Connor. The film was released in 2017 and was the highest-grossing box-office for an Irish produced feature film that year. Also through that company they co-produced Irish-dancing star Michael Flatley’s debut feature - BLACKBIRD - a three country co-production between UK, Ireland and Barbados. It recently premiered at Raindance Film Festival.



Union Entertainment Group (UEG) is a production and film financing company that develops and produces film, TV and digital properties with major production companies within the entertainment industry. Since its creation in late 2010, UEG has been an active partner on such films as HELLO I MUST BE GOING, EVERY SECRET RISE OF THADLAND, X/Y, NIGHTINGALE, JANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE, and ARCTIC. Funny Leopard is run by Eoin C Macken. The first project was Leopard, starring Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Tom Hopper (Umbrella Academy) and Eoin Macken (Nightflyers) that premised in 2015 at the Galway Film Fleadh, released in 2016 in the USA on Amazon, followed by The Green Rabbit & The Ice Cream Girl, starring Emmett J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders & Krypton) & Ryan Simpkins (The House), that had it’s world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival 2018 & won its one to watch award. Here Are The Young Men is the third project under the Funny Leopard film banner.
