Short documentary Amazonian films compete on the 5th in Amazonas Film Festival

Six films start this Monday (5) the dispute for the awards of the Amazonas Short Film Competitive Exhibition - Documentary, in the 9th Amazonas Film Festival (AFF).

The presentations - four works produced in Manaus and two in Parintins - take place from 04:30 pm on, in the Amazonas Opera House, and it is free of charge. And they are the evidence of the positive balance of the cultural policy developed by the Government of Amazonas state by means of the training actions of the Lyceum and the effort and talent of the Amazonian artists, as underlined by the Secretary of Culture of Amazonas State, Roberio Braga.

Directed by Sergio Cobelo, "Retratos de Manaus" is the documentary that opens the event with five episodes in which the cultural identity of Manaus is the central theme.

The stories of Haitian immigrants in the capital of the State, their adaptation to new customs and the search for better opportunities in the city since January 2010, when a strong earthquake devastated the country and they left their homeland to restart life in Brazil is told in "Filhos do Haiti", by Ari Santos.

From Tupinambarana Island comes "Chão Molhado", an exciting narration by Everton Macedo e Silva on the daily life of the inhabitants of Parintins during the historic flood this year and how the rising of the waters became a social problem that directly affected the daily life of the residents of lower areas of the city.

Also produced in the land of the "bumbas", "Cinema En Trânsito", by João Aureo, is based on the records of an extension project from the Federal University of Amazonas that used the cinema as a tool of education.

The work focuses on the encounter of Satere-Mawe indigenous people with films that show the daily life of the Kuikuro, Huni kui, Panará, Xavante and Ashaninka indigenous people, produced by themselves. The documentary was filmed in the university, in the Indigenous House of Parintins and in the community of Molongotuba (Indigenous area of the municipality of Andira / Barreirinha).

The fifth film of the competitive exhibition is "A Última Travessia", by Joice Caster who, in a poetic way, shows the characters and the last journey of the ferryboat that used to make the trip between the port of São Raimundo, in Manaus, and Cacau Pirêra, in Iranduba, prior to the deactivation of the service with the inauguration of the bridge over the Rio Negro.

At the closing of the exhibition, the daily life of people from various professions in the most varied environments and situations and their daily relationship with the radio is the theme of "No Rádio do Seu Coração", movie by Elisa Bessa and Ladilce Pontes that shows the strength and influence of this means of communication in the era of the internet and social media. All documentaries have free censorship and free tickets.

The films shown in this Amazonas Film Festival will have audio description for visually handicapped people. More on the schedule may be found in  and
