Amazonas Film Festival


The festival is held under the patronage of Amazonas State Governor Omar Aziz and State secretary of Culture, General Director Roberio Braga.

Screenings take place in the amazing Amazonas Theatre built in 1896 in the centre of amazon where the Rio Negro and Amazon meet.



Brazilian film "Colegas", by Marcelo Galvão, opens the Amazonas Film Festival














Starred by three actors with Down syndrome, the Brazilian film "Colegas" (2012), winner of the Kikito award as best film of Gramado Film Festival, will be shown during the opening ceremony of the ninth edition of Amazonas Film Festival (AFF), Saturday (3).

The feature film is directed by Marcelo Galvão and tells the story of the characters Stallone (Ariel Goldenberg), Aninha (Rita Pokk) and Marcio (Breno Viola) who communicate by means of speeches of characters from famous movies, result of the years they worked in the video library of Instituto Madre Tereza, where they live. Until that, inspired by "Thelma& Louise" (1991), they decide to flee in search of their dreams in an old car belonging to the gardener Arlindo, played by Lima Duarte.

"Colegas" also won the awards for art direction and special jury, for the actors Ariel, Rita and Breno.

The filmmaker Marcelo Galvão is graduated in advertising and propaganda and made his first feature film in 2005, "Quarta B", elected best fiction film in the 29ª Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo (popular jury). He is known for directing and writing the script of "Bellini e o Demônio" and the documentary "Lado B - Como fazer um longa sem grana no Brasil", both in 2007.

The ceremony in which the movie of Galvão will be shown is to be hosted by the actor and entertainer Carlos Casagrande.


The 9th edition of Amazonas Film Festival will have more than 5 thousand hours of films exhibition. There are 37 productions in the competitive exhibition, 144 movies in the side exhibition, a total of 211 film productions.For the governor of Amazonas, Omar Aziz, the Amazonas Film Festival is one of the great incentives for the culture of the State. "The investment in training young filmmakers from Amazonas state in producing their own movies began with the creation of the festival. We are on the right path," he says.
