The Turkey of the year...goes to The Square
There were also some highly overrated films in 2017. The Turkey of the year in my estimation was the Swedish attempt at satire entitled "The Square" Described thusly: "Comedy · A prestigious Stockholm museum's chief art curator finds himself in times of both professional and personal crisis as he attempts to set up a controversial new exhibit". This film has won numerous festival accolades including best film at Cannes but it is so eyebrow raisingly stupid (could these people actually be mouthing such crunching banalities?) -- with such presumptuous pseudo intellectual dialogue that it forced me to take a walk within the first twenty minutes during two different attempts at giving it a break. Director Ruben Östlund made a pretty good thriller about a family caught in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps, "Lavina" in 2014. Let's just say. that he's better at avalanches than he is at cascades of "sophisticated" repartee in "art films". 02.04.2018 | ALEX FARBA's blog Cat. : FILM
