Rome-based Audifilm has confirmed it will resume negotiations at Venice with director Marco Ferreri regarding the much talked-about Alice sul pavimento (The Usher), which also has keen interest from Il postino sensation Maria Grazia Cucinotta. Ferreri is in town to promote his docu-drama, Nitrato d'argento (Silver Nitrate), which Audifilm co-produced with Sacis. The Italian director has been linked to The Usher as far back as this year's Berlin Festival.
Audifilm now has the screenplay ready - an Elena Soprano adaptation of her own novel - and will co-finance the project with Italy's Mikado Film.
The company believes the mix of the Il postino starlet and veteran director Ferreri will deliver at the Italian box office and abroad. Adam Minns
