Guy
US/Germany/UK
Michael Lindsay-Hogg

Once I read the script, I knew that I had to bring this story to the screen. I also knew it couldn't be a typical movie, says Guy's producer, Renee Missel, whose credits include Nell, Resurrection and The Main Event.

Guy revolves around the story of a young woman filmmaker (Hope Davis) who preys upon the Los Angeles urban jungle in search of her victims. Armed with only her camera she catches him unaware, a stranger on a street corner. From here the story begins to unravel as she relentlessly forces her camera on the most intimate aspects of his life

Unable to ignore her or the camera's glare, Guy (Vincent D'Onofrio) develops an obsession with its presence. The act of filming has deep repercussions, plunging them both into an ever deepening vortex of revelation, exploration and desire.

Conceived by production designer Kara Lindstrom as a road movie, each exterior resembles the characters' internal emotions. As she herself states, The main concern was to show Guy's alienation visually. The visual style, through cameraman Arturo Smith, is also constructed to reveal the characters' outward natures. The result is a film, which shows, according to director Lindsay-Hogg, the way we live today with the intrusion of the camera in our public and private lives the intrusion and the seduction.

Lindsay-Hogg has always had a fascination with the way 'good' actors are able to side-step technical and artistic problems: How they are able to dominate the screen despite narrative distractions thrown in to block their way; how they bond with one another and the crew to deliver better and more powerful work. In Guy, he throws his actors the ultimate challenge. Donna Wasserstein
