Alberto Garcia Ferrer, former co-ordinator of ICI, is new director of Cuba's Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV. For the first time, six places will be open for European students from non-Hispanic nations, a move Ferrer sees as 'a step forward'.
When asked whether the school is likely to foment recent successes, Ferrer said that he sees Argentinian and Brazilian cinema making the running at the moment. 'To talk about Latin American cinema is to take an average based on these two countries,' he said. JH
