El Anzuelo (The Come-on),
Mexico
Ernesto Rimoch

A family. A wedding. A party. What could be the problem? The money, of course. When a middle-class couple Doña Rosa and Don Carlos marry their daughter Alejandra to Alfonso, a young man whose means are superior to theirs, they tears, pride and all decide to throw a party with which to impress their neighbors and express their joy. But a party means money A problem? No, no.

They borrow the money. The bash is a smash. But when Don Carlos discovers that the money intended to pay the musicians is missing, the family once driven by tears is now driven to tears. And all 'pride' must be lost. Therein lies the problem. Will the ending be happy? When is it not?

El Anzuelo has already received numerous prizes in its native Mexico. It is 45-year-old Ernesto Rimoch's first feature and one into which he has displayed his directing, his writing and his production skills. Kris Rendon
