Your Black Hair and My Hand
Lee Xin
China

An instance of the continuing commitment of the San Sebastián Festival to China's emerging generation of film-makers, Your Black Hair and My Hand is a first feature by Beijing-born 27-year-old Lee Xin, who graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1991 and has since worked on commercials and on a short film, White Curtain. A co-production between Hong Kong's Vanke Film Company and Shanghai Film Studio, with European funding made available through the Festival's own Euskal Media, Your Black Hair… is set in a world very different from the costume dramas favoured by the established Third Generation film-makers (as well, of course, as by foreign co-producers).

By contrast, Lee's film focuses on the strained and unsatisfactory relationships between two young couples in contemporary China.
