Moebius
ARGENTINA
EL COLLECTIVO UNIVERSIDAD DEL CINE

Film is a collaborative art form, every director will tell you, before going on to talk about the film s/he has just made as though it was her or his own immaculate conception, created out of nothing but pure genius.

Moebius, on the other hand - an apocalyptic sci-fi fable which transforms Buenos Aires into an Alphaville for the nineties - is a genuine collective effort, put together by a group of 41 students at Manuel Antin's film school, the Universidad del Cine.

With Gustavo Mosquera and Maria Angeles co-ordinating their efforts, the students shared and swapped jobs (there were five directors and six writers), making a nonsense of the usual credit block.

The approach also presumably ensures that the film will never play in international competition, since no festival in the world would be prepared to come up with 41 accommodation packages for one film (and few would be capable of breaking with the habit of a lifetime and not ascribe the film to one or, at the most, two directors).
