Artemis Motion Pictures brings you the first ever film festival dedicated to honoring female action and empowerment.
We celebrate powerful women taking action on the silver screen. From female action heroes to female activists, we will shine a spotlight on females in narrative and documentary films who are fearless, fierce, and revolutionary.
Artemis Women in Action Film Festival celebrates action and empowerment films and the women who kick ass and change culture in them! We not only wish to celebrate, we wish to elevate. We believe that film has both the power to entertain and to awaken. With this festival, we'd also like to awaken people's awareness of the dynamic and powerful roles of women in our society and throughout the world. Our festival mission is to both kick ass and open minds.
Whether suffragettes or stuntwomen, female superheroes or female leaders, if your film features of woman as a lead or co-lead who is in action or takes action, we want to see it!
We are interested in all narrative, animated, and documentary films as well as screenplays that showcase powerful women. All submissions must feature women either starring or co-starring as a physical action character or agent of social change.
Short Films – up to 40 minutes. Films – 40 minutes or longer.
Narrative films, any genre. Examples: Terminator 2: Sci-Fi/Action; Aliens: Horror/Action; The Heat: Comedy/Action; Suffragettes: Drama.
Animated films, any film. Examples: Frozen, Brave, Tangled,and The Croods.
Documentary films are open to any stories about women in the armed forces, public service (police force, fire fighters, paramedics, etc.), pro and non-pro sports, political and social activism, basically any story that celebrates women in action or depicts heroic acts.
Screenplays (100-140 pages) is open to any genre. For example Terminator 2: Sci-Fi/Action; Aliens: Horror/Action; The Heat: Comedy/Action; Suffragettes: Drama.
Prizes & Awards
We present Artemis Awards for Audience Choice, Best Film, Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Fight Scene, Best Action Sequence, Best Screenplay, as well as others.
Top three winners of the Screenplay Competition will receive an InkTip Script Listing: A listing of your script on InkTip so that producers and reps can find you. Producers have made more than 200 films from scripts and writers they found through InkTip.
Please Note: Artemis Women In Action Film Festival (AFF) requires that all films feature a female in an action role as a lead or co-lead, whether narrative, short, animation or documentary. AFF has no gender requirements for any other filmmaking position.
FILM COMPETITION GENERAL RULES:
• Films must be submitted on Region1 DVD, media on flash or data DVD, Region 1 Blu-ray or as an online screener.
**** IMPORTANT NOTE: If selected, AFF will require a Region 1 Blu-ray format to screen at the festival. Short films selected for screening may have to provide a digital 1920x1080 Pro Res Quicktime and/or BluRay disc. Determinations as to which screener type is needed will be made after official selections are announced.
• If you are unable or unwilling to provide us your film in the above formats, do not submit your film.
• There is no date requirement for film completion for this edition of AFF. Any films completed for submission prior to close of submissions of the current year will be accepted.
• Narrative and Documentary films with U.S. distribution (obtained prior to being selected for AFF screening) or films produced, financed or initiated by a major film studio or television network are ineligible for competition, but may be considered for a special screening. Selection for screening will be determined no later than one month prior to the festival. Films that have screened on US network or cable television or distributed to theaters prior to the festival dates are also ineligible for competition.
• Once an entry payment has been processed we cannot provide a refund.
UPON ACCEPTANCE INTO COMPETITION BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE:
In one package, please send the following:
• A screening copy of the film on Region 1 Blu-ray. Screening copies will not be returned. Short films selected for screening may have to provide a digital 1920x1080 Pro Res Quicktime and/or BluRay disc. Those determinations are made after official selections are announced. If you cannot provide either of the above, please do not submit your film.
• A self-addressed, stamped postcard for each submission if you wish acknowledgment of the receipt of your entry.

ANIMATED SHORT FILM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Films must be animated short narratives under 40 minutes and features women in leading or co-leading roles in action.
• Open to any form of animation. Animated Shorts must be narrative works only.
• Open to anyone who wishes to enter.
DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM REQUIREMENTS
• Films must be feature-length documentaries of 40 minutes or longer and features women in leading or co-leading roles in action.

• Open to anyone who wishes to enter.
SCREENPLAY REQUIREMENTS:
• Feaures: 100-140 pages in any genre and features women in leading or co-leading roles in action.
• Pilots: 40 - 65 pages in any genre and features women in leading or co-leading roles in action.
• Open to anyone who wishes to enter.

By submitting your property to Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to, and will abide by all the terms and conditions of submission of materials to this festival competition, which are listed in this release and on this webpage.
You certify you have read, understood, and complied with all eligibility requirements.
If the property is selected, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless AFF from any claims that arise as a result of this submission or screening of your property as well as from damage to or loss of any submitted materials en route to the festival.
Your submitted property is not subject to any claims or litigation and is not threatened by any claims or litigation.
By submitting your property, you agree the festival may use your poster art, screengrabs, trailers/trailer links, etc. for social media and marketing purposes of the festival.
